Thinking About Making Some Sheaths

sorry to jack the thread. I started recently and have done 3 sheaths already. I read somewhere about a guy using spacers so the blade doesn't rub on the inside. How can I accomplish this? And since you guys seem to have been doing this for a while, can you give me some pointers?

the Ranger comes out a bit easier now after taking out/pushing in several times but it was really tight at first, maybe I riveted to close to the throat? The becker comes out easier but I've seen some sratches on the coat. Any useful tips you guys can give me? Thanks!

hello again. I've kept on doing sheaths and am working on the scratching issues and ease of draw, but my main concern right now is doing one for a big recurve blade, an OKC SP52.

I've read things like leaving multi-layered tape straight on the blade, and was also thinking about shaping a piece of cardboard and fixing it to the edge from the belly towards guard, or maybe just doing a pancake and leaving the back panel flat, or pressing with a piece of carboard under the blade... it's kinda confusing. I would love to see the recurve outline on the sheath, but obviously it needs space to draw out. Suggestion???? Pleaaaaaaase???

Look it up on youtube bro. there are a lot of nice vid tutorial on there. You need kydex, chicago screws, rivets, a rivet punch (aka a rivet hand setter kit make sure that the setter is the same size as the rivets), and some kydex sheath making foam (heat resistant foam for forming the sheath). I use a cheap backpacking stove i got from walmart to make mine. its easier to make sure you dont get the kydex to hot. all of these items except the stove can be bought at knifekits . com. ide recommend getting the all inclusive kydex package. i made my own kydex press with boards and a hinge. remember it wont be perfect the first time, it takes a while to get it right.

been doing it for a couple months now (finished a sheath for a scrapyard 511 sykco on wednesday night): homemade press with foam, #8 1/4" rivets with hand setting tools, hammer, rotary tool for cutting the kydex, sandpaper etc. My question is about doing a sheath for a big knife with a big recurve (belly), an Ontario SP52. That big belly wont slide out if I do a regular press; I know I need to make the exit bigger, but also want to see the shape of the recurve on the sheath. I have some ideas already and read some threads here, and I don't want to make a spine cutout, but I guess I wont really learn until I do it. Might be this weekend's project! Any additional tips or ideas?
