Thinking about Microtech

Along with all the other MT complaints, I've heard many people complain that their OTF models only fire successfully about 75% of the time. The quality control issues, combined with the fact that their CS is a joke, leaves me with very little faith in Microtech.
NTM their prices are hilarious.
Too bad they can't "copy" someone else's business model and CS.
Go with a Pro-Tech.

MT otfs are some of the most reliable out there. Definately of all the otfs I've owned. As far as production model otfs go, nobody else comes close IME. And that's experience, not heard. If they do not fire correctly it's likely a maintenance problem. Not the knife's fault if someone squirts it full of oil.

The general impression I have of Microtech is that the knives are good, and everything else is abysmal.

My two cents are that there are so many more reputable producers of knives out there that I wouldn't buy Microtechs at half price. If you want a side opening auto then look into ProTech. They are a top notch company.

There are so many people on here that have 'heard' people complain about microtechs fail but I have yet to see one person comment on here that their microtech did fail. Look I'm not a hard user on my knives but my microtechs have never faild me and that includes my OTFs. I perfer to edc my microtechs more than my sebenza, zt's, benchmades, and spydercos (well not my sage 1). Those who complain about the cost probably never forked out the money to feel the difference between a protech and a microtech. Guess I'm just a fan boy with no morals though.

IV already got a ZT551 which is by far my favorite model thay have made. I just got back from a store in town. They only had automatic microtechs. They had a CR umnumzaan for 399 but i wasnt sure if that was a good price or not and didnt want to buy it on impulse. Its the first time iv held one and it was awesome. The rubber rings around the thumb stud feel like they wouldnt last long and it was smaller than i thought it would be in hand. Other than that, im in love with it. They aldo had a Ti military that looked brand new. Awesome knife but a bit heavier than im looking for. So, the search for my new knife begins. Im pretty sure i wont order a microtech since i cant inspect it before purchase. Kinda sucks.

Depending on where you are, gun shows can be a great place to look at and handle knives. Got my Select Fire at the last one. If you're really worried about ordering one sight unseen look on MT's website and find a dealer close by. Heck, there are plenty of dealers on this forum who carry them and I'm sure they wouldn't mind hand picking one for you. Personally I don't think there's anything to worry about.

If you list the things you're looking for I'm sure people will give you a long list of knives to look at with those attributes.

I have never had a problem buying a knife without seeing it from a reputable dealer online. But maybe I am just lucky.

My first microtech came in a few days ago and I like it pretty good. I certainly haven't found anything wrong with it. I got a cts-204p socom delta which aside from being big for me is awesome imo. Idk if I will get another microtech but I will certainly get another sub lock.

For this type of money no matter what knife you get should hold it's value pretty good, so if you don't like it you can trade it or get most of the money back.

Though it may be in bad taste to sell or trade a gift

Yea this knife will be special and ill never trade or sell it off. Iv always wanted an Umnumzaan so im gonna have another look at it later this week and possibly pick it up. Anyone know how to tell if its s30v or s35vn? Theres no markings on the blade.

Those steels are the same. I couldn't tell you the difference between either one from my limited use.

I'm not even a fan of the Umnumzaan and I would take that over any Microtech out there. I feel that most of the people here that defend Microtech have no idea of how they have treated their customers, other makers they have collaborated with, and some of their dealers in the past. The 0777 / Faketrix fiasco was bad, but it pales in comparison to some of the other BS that Marfione had pulled.

Add all of that on top of the worst CS in the biz and you're dealing with quite a handful. Again, I say why spend your money on one of their overpriced knives when there are so many other possibilities out there?

Go ProTech for a high quality auto and a company that stands behind their products with stellar customer service.

I just purchased my first Microtech, the Socom Delta which is similar to their flagship the Socom Elite. Instead the Delta has G10 instead of aluminum, sports a tanto blade, and has a "sub" frame-lock along with a few more minor details.

The fit and finish was excellent, approaching custom quality. I'd say give either the Delta or Elite a try!

That would be a great looking knife if it wasnt for those ugly A** screws.:barf:

Yea i think iv decided to not buy from Microtech. Too much possible drama. I wasnt looking for an auto anyway. Its a knife id like to carry a lot, legally.

Definitely pick up the umnum or if you haven't handled a sebenza before you should.
I have nothing good to say about micotech. Sure some of the designs are interesting mainly
the socom elite/ Delta but as far as OTF automaticd go I consider them more of novelty items
than real user knives. And theres the fact that they blatantly rip off designs all in the name to make
a quick Buck. You'd expect that from a Chinese knife company. Not an American knife company.

Grab the Umnum! for $399 brand new it's a good deal. Especially from a dealer.
Most dealers/places sell them for $425 as that's about the going price for one new in the box.
Grab it while you can, it's a pretty great knife.
