Thinking about picking up a ZT 0562CF, couple of questions ?

I'm looking for a new knife and this one caught my eye. I'm new to ZT and recently picked up a ZT 0770CF and this is my first flipper and I really like it. I haven't handled one in person and was wondering if the deployment was as easy and similar to the 0770CF. I usually carry a smaller blade (BM Mini Barrage 586) and was looking for something a little bigger. I bought the 0770 on a whim and thought it would work well due to its light weight when I'm wearing lighter pants and shorts. I carry the BM 586 to work every day and wanted to try something bigger for nights and weekends when wearing jeans and heavier pants. I just like the looks of the blade on the 0562 and was looking for something that leaned a little more towards the tactical side. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.....

P.S. I'm new to the knife world and all the different brands but do like American made if possible.

Deployment is easy though different than the 770CF. The 770 has the Speed Safe assist whereas the 562 has KVT bearings. IMO the bearings offer a smoother opening plus it lacks the resistance that assisted folders have when closing.

I think the 562 fits the bill for what you're looking for.

Give Emersons a look when you get a chance. For a first, I'd recommend picking up a lightly used one right here off the Exchange.

Welcome John!! I'm in Jersey also.....Central. If we're somewhat close to each other I can show you a 562 CF and see if you like it.......you probably will bro!! Excellent knife that's a lot of fun to play with! I also have a 452 CF that is wicked cool!!
I bought both from Scott at usamadeblade here on the forum. He has them already anodized. My 562 is light blue and the 452 is bronze.......great looking knives!!
Shoot me a PM to see if we can get together and talk blades!!

The Emersons did catch my eye, especially the Sheepdog and the Mini CQC15. But after reading many reviews and comments on this forum I got a little nervous about how many people had problems with the lock bar sticking on them and led me to start looking elsewhere. The ZT's seem to get good reviews and that is what led me to research more of their offerings.

Thanks John

palonej, I'm new to this forum and can't seem to find the PM button. I'm in Toms River and work in New Brunswick, would love to check out your 0562.

Sticky locks can occur. Very easy to fix though with adding either Sharpie or pencil graphite to the lock face/blade tang.

Emersons are one of the brands where most either love them or hate them with handful of folks in the middle. You truly wont know if they are for you until you try one. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Definitely pick up the ZT this go around though.

PM's are a perk that comes with a paid membership.

I've been looking into this knife as well for my next knife. I've heard some concerns with the pivot coming loose over time. Has anyone experienced this. I'm stuck between the 0562 and 0620. Sorry I am not intending to hi jack the thread. I'm really wanting to be convinced on the 0562

It can happen to any knife that has screws. Don't let it discourage you from getting a knife. A little bit of blue or purple Loctite will keep it set in the right place.

No Problem, I'm looking to learn as well !!!

OP, I find the deployment of the 0562 to be different to the 0770, as the blade is heavier, the detent stronger and it's not assisted.
That's not to say its bad in anyway, it isn't, just different. My 0562 deploys quickly consistently and easily.

My 2 groats - definitely buy an 0562! I've had an infatuation with the 0562 since the day I unboxed it.

Cursum,

Thanks for the pics, that does put it into perspective compared to what I already have. I do love my 586 that I've been carrying for the past two years but I'm just looking to expand and try different knives. I know some people hate the assisted opening but I like them, then again I don't have much experience with anything else. I just picked up the ZT 0770cf a couple weeks ago and don't have much pocket time with it yet. I just liked the way it looked and felt when I saw it and bought it without any research. So far I'm happy with my impulse buy. Something about the looks of the 0562cf just peaks my interest and I was looking for something in the 3 1/2 inch range.

Welcome JJ.

I like the 586 too, wouldn't part with it. I'm not as enamored with AO as I used to be but do still like it, particularly the strong Barrage AO. I can't help thinking the 586 would be great de-assisted given its Axis lock, but I have other non-AO Axis lock folders so haven't done so.

I grabbed an 0770 in M390 and am very happy with it as a lighter carry. Took the edge down to ~ 13' per side, mean slicer.

I got the Elmax/G10 0562 as I got it at a great price. Originally I would have preferred the CF version but now I have come to love the pure utilitarianism of this one, it is utterly and absolutely a functional tool in every way. And the more I use Elmax the more I'm liking it.
Will also say that the 0562 clip has the best factory deep carry clip I've used, it's exceptionally good.

Get it. It's a great knife. The pivot on mine hasn't come lose yet. I haven't taken it apart so it may still have some Loctite from ZT.

When I first saw it, I liked it but not really enough to even consider buying it. I ended up seeing one at a gun store and was able to get it in hand. Right after I flipped it and held it for a moment I knew it was for me. Bought one off the exchange within a week.

I have both, love both, each has their own pros and cons.

ZT0770CF is an assisted knife, uses a metal bar as a spring to open the knife. Very fast, very light, but not a huge fan of how it opens soo hard. I carry this the most due to slim size, weight and blade geometry (great slicer).

ZT0562CF uses KVT system, ball bearings basically, very smooth deployment better than speed safe. Alot heavier than 0770cf, thicker blade and does not cut as well as the 0770CF, but still a great knife. Alot of owners complain the pivot comes loose, I suggest get some blue lock-tite and put one drop and re-tighten the pivot and you will never have to worry about that again. The ball detent on the 0562 is rather hard to overcome when closing it one handed, you have to get used to it as if your not careful you can cut yourself. Its the position where they placed the ball that it is too far forward that when closing the blade you need to pull the lock bar back all the way for the blade to close easily. I learned that when disengaging the lock-bar to not put your thumb so far forward near the back of the blade, but to place your thumb in the middle of the lock-bar so when closing the blade the flipper tab doesn't hit your thumb completely. Again great knife, I do not carry mine as much due to size and weight but still one of my favorites.

Not sure how there can be a sticky lock since the 0562 comes with a steel insert to avoid that problem.

BTW if you like/love the 0562, you should look into the ZT 0392 LE models, basically a upgraded pimped 0562.

I love love love my 562CF!!!!! Did that show how I feel? [emoji2]. Anyway, I think it's the perfect size between the large 560 series, and the smaller 566, but still with Hinderer style, form and function. Love the slicer grind. It's manual, but love how the blade rockets out in perfect smoothness. The 204p blades (current production) holds an amazing edge. And heck, the carbon fiber and titanium is simple beautiful together.

The only downside? You won't want to put it down.

stkh22,

The sticky lock was in reference to the Emersons that were suggested to me.

I love my 0562, and my pivot hasn't come loose. It is going to be quite a bit heavier than your 0770 of course. Even though some newer ZT's have come out, the 0562 is still my fav ZT.
