Thinking about picking up a ZT 0562CF, couple of questions ?

Absolutely no stick or loosening pivot on my 562.
Love the knife......the THWACK upon opening is addicting!

The detent on mine is very light. To flip you must pre load.

I had a 0562 cf for awhile. Sometimes I regret selling it. It is a knife I would buy again. The detent did take a little while to break in, it flipped like a dream after that. The same with my 0452 which I'm not selling as its my last ZT and I like it a lot.

The 562 is a really nice do all Edc. A smidge in the bigger side but it works great. Very sharp out of box.

I originally preordered the 562cf but canceled because it took so long now I'm considering revisiting this knife because of the unfortunate theft of my beloved 561.

I recently picked up a 0452cf and it feels like it was built for my hand. I love this knife, but I hate the detent.

Awesome feedback from guys that own it! I can get the m390 version. Is there any difference in the two?

It was the steel they used before the MAP increase and there was an issue in getting M390. They switched to CTS-204P on the CF models, its basically the USA equivalent to M390. Some people prefer M390 over CTS-204P, but honestly the avg user will never see the difference. M390 is just more desirable for collectors since its rare and now discontinued.

Here is the chart if your curious.
http://zknives.com/knives/steels/steelgraph.php?nm=CTS-204P, M390, 20CV&hrn=1&gm=0

Now if your asking the difference between M390 and ElMax, M390 & CTS-204P are the better steel, not by much tho. Either or will suffice with cutting cardboard and phone books.

Like I said in my previous post, if you love the 0562 the next step is to get a 0392... Here is my pimped 0562(poor mans 0392) next to my 0392brngld. Both similar in size and weight.

I've discovered that each knife requires a slightly different trick to open smoothly and consistently. I think there are lots of things in play for a flipper including tang size, shape, distance from pivot point, blade shape, blade weight, and blade length. With the 562cf, when pulling down on the tab, I tend to add a slight diagonal force into the spine.

On my 452cf, the tab is smaller, and needs to throw a longer blade. So I find a straight down pull works consistently with a nice smooth whack into lock. And with both of these knives (as well as most frame locks), you do not want to put pressure on the lock with grip during the open flip. With some knives I've had to adjust my grip so fingers land on the clip rather than middle of knife (usually on the lock). Narrow designs tend to be a little more difficult to keep force off the lock. Think 452 and 450. The detent appears much stronger (sometimes nearly impossible) when gripping with fingers landing right on the lock.

I have both the ZT 0562 G10 and 0562CF. Both wonderful knives with great features, and very sexy. The G10 version has a totally stonewashed blade which hides scratches well. The CF version has a satin finished blade which does not hide scratches well, although the small flat upper section near the blade stops is stonewashed. I would recommend the G10 version for a user. The 0562CF is 156 grams, the 0562 (G10) is 158 grams. The 0562 knives are super fun to flip open over and over.

I've owned the ZT 0770CF w/Elmax blade and currently own the 0770CFM390 and 0770CFM4. As mentioned by another poster, the blades on assisted knives do open somewhat forcefully compared to a non-assisted knife so in my opinion they are not as fun to flip open as the non-assisted knives, but on the plus side you know it will open readily in an emergency. I don't have any problem opening or closing my 0770 knives. All my ZT knives have become slightly easier to open and close after flipping them a lot, like 100-200 times, then they stay about the same. I am mostly talking about the pressure required to push the flipper.

If I could only have two ZT knives as users they would be the 0770CF and 0562 (G10) because of their size and attractiveness, and features. If I could only have one it would probably be the 0770CF because of it's size and light weight (88 grams), and because the blade isn't too thick, and the blade shape makes it very useful for opening mail, boxes, and for cutting food, etc.

Another ZT knife that is similar in appearance to the 0562 is the 0566. I have the Elmax/G10 version of the 0566 and it weighs 149 grams. The 0566 is about the same size as the 0770CF (the handle is about 1/4" longer), about the same weight as the 0562 (about 10 grams less), looks similar to the 0562 but has a blade the same length as the 0770CF, and is an assisted opener like the 0770CF. The 0566 handle material is stainless steel not titanium like the 0562, so it is a little heavy for its size and does not require a lockbar insert.

The 0562 is a great knife. You'll be happy with it. In my case the 0770CF gets carried and used more.

The 0562cf is my weekend knife and that's the only thing I don't like about it. I don't want to carry it to work for fear of having to use it hard and scuffing it up. Love it!

neonsteve,
Thanks for taking the time with such a well written and informative reply. I'm new to knives and have much to learn. The few that I have are in the 3 inch range for blade length. The largest one I have is the 0770cf that I just picked up and am enjoying due to how well it carries in my pocket. It's my first flipper and I like it but I have this urge to try something a little bigger. I'm just not sure how useful a larger blade will be to me.

The 0770CF is just about a perfect all around folding knife. The 0562CF has a satin-finished blade that shows scratches. The G10 0562 has a fully stonewashed blade that hides scratches. That would be my only warning. Buy a 0562, or even a 0452CF if you just want something longer that is light weight.

Okay, I took a look at the 0452cf and now I'm definitely confused as to which way to go. Even though the 0452cf is longer, does it take up less room in the pocket compared to the 0562 ? Also how is the S35VN blade compared to the CTS-204P ?

The 0452CF has a longer and narrower handle and blade than the 0562CF and that does affect how it fits in the pocket. Though I have knives with both blade steels, I haven't used them enough to compare. I was sort of joking about the 0452CF being an option because it's my less favorite looking ZT knife (the 0562CF being my favorite) but I do own one. The 0452CF is long for an every day carry knife and would probably scare people a little.

Like I said in my previous post, if you love the 0562 the next step is to get a 0392... Here is my pimped 0562(poor mans 0392) next to my 0392brngld. Both similar in size and weight.

K this is rather intriguing. I have the 0392 as well and as sweet as it is I'm contemplating selling it to do what you've done since I'm a sucker for customization.

0562cf for the 204 steel + custom ti hardware + custom ti scale. That comes to the same price msrp as the 0392.

What are your thoughts of the differences between the two. Am I crazy for wanting to do it?

^^^ The 0562 above is the M390 version since I purchased it before I was able to get my hands on a 0392. Its pretty darn close to a 0392, Steve from RGT did a amazing job with the full liner delete ti scale. Weight is about the same, action is pretty close, in my case I feel the 0562 is smoother but I have flipped and closed it probably more than 300 times so that could be it is "broken" in. Blade length between the two is the same but the cutting edge is a tad longer on the 0562 since the 0392 has a larger choil as seen in the pictures. 0392 has a shorter (HEIGHT wise) blade and I love the swedge with harpoon effect compared to the 0562. The 0562 is also slimmer than the 0392, not by much but I do notice it.

Personally IF I had to choose between the two I would take the 0392, its a factory custom, I can still pimp it out with Steel Flame parts which you can not do on the 0562, and the blade shape is just sexy to me. The 0562 is fun, feels great in hand with the full Titanium scale, I'm also a NUT for customization and if I got the 0562 after the 0392, YES I would do it again because its just so daym cool. In your situation I would NOT sell the 0392 unless you are UN-Happy with it, don't see how since it is a really beautiful and well constructed knife. Just do it slowly so your wallet doesn't feel it all at once.

******UPDATE******
Gentlemen, Thanks for all the feedback and help ! I just wanted to let you know I just ordered the 0562CF from one of the forum sponsors. I'll let you know how I like it after I get my hands on it.

Merry Christmas to you and all your families !!!!!!

John

A good choice, I was going to say the 0452 is a cool knife but I don't carry it because of the blade length, If I could get it reground to just under the legal length, I would be happy to carry it.
