Thinking Again

John, I have a few questions. When you make a longer handle like on the Bluegill, do you keep the overall length about the same and just reduce the blade length a little to make the handle a little longer? Or is there enough play in the material where you can keep the blade the same size and stretch out the handle? Does the overall length and aesthetics come into play when stretching a pattern out?
Blade stays the same, with a longer handle.

What about mesquite? Maybe not as colorful but it has some nice wood grain.

I’m really hoping to add an Osage handled knife to my collection. I have a couple of Osage walking sticks that I made and it’s by far my favorite. If Osage isn’t an option, I’d probably opt for natural canvas micarta.

cbach8tw cbach8tw of course, if you wanted a longer blade for a generally upsized knife, I bet John would be willing to do that as well since he has been very open to all sorts of small modifications to his current designs, along with the willingness to do a whole new design. One nice thing about working with John right there. You can either get the standard model that's already a nice design or get it adjust a little or a lot to what you would like to have for your. I know I asked for extended handles and different blade shapes and lengths on different knives.

Of the 5 I've ordered, only the Kephart will be "stock specs". Blade shape on one, handle length on one, Handle length and blade shape on another, and then blade length and blade shape on the last I have on order. The blade shape variations have been simple, just the tips and grinds, but that's still enough to give the knife a wholly different feel when using the knife.
