I dont own any higher end Buck yet, and almost no fixed blades and I wanna add a 119 to my collection. I can get one locally but they come in a blister pack. Since it will sit more than being used if I buy it online will it come in a box or a blister pack?

You'll have to e-mail the seller to see how they come... Boxed or a blister pack... Good Luck... :) :D

well I bought a 105 instead of 119 today from a local guy at the fleamarket. He had the 119 and a wood handle 119 but he wanted more than I wanted to pay. I could have gotten them $15 cheaper at a local sportings goods store. The wood handle one has some green corrosion on some of the brass on the handle. I dont think he saw it though when he handed it to me, so I was going to pass on it since it was $100. He did give me a box with the 105 but when i got home I see its a box for a 102, no biggie I guess. Might take a pci after dinner for the sunday picture show thread

This post got me going I bought one in the late 70's but it was a "earlier knife" with sheath with the flap....I have been surfing with the alien buck models for days now since you posted this thread. LOL
I thought it was a 105 but that sweep does not look right to me....and the 102 is too short, The 119 thats definitely not it.....not a hunter. this reminds me more of the blade a 1973 BUCK 121 INVERTED 3 LINE TANG STAMP FISHERMAN KNIFE, then this one too EARLY BUCK USA 105 REVERSE BUCK NAME , I'm going crazy! thanks men...LOL Now I think its this one VINTAGE BUCK NO 102 HUNTING FIXED BLADE KNIFE W/SHEATH WOODSMAN................my browser has 25 tabs! and I'm going back & forth between them.....LOL I'm gone....Good Luck! choosing.....

Old Hunter, what the length on that blade......that looks like like the one that came my way in 1978. Like I said, it was definitely an earlier knife. I swear the blade was 6" maybe a bit longer, I remember sometimes I thought it was a bit too long.....
I wore it all the time backpacking along the Presidential Range in the White Mt's and fishing & camping, The sheath [original] was a flap over. It definitely was not a 119 hunter it did not have the 1/4" groove blood disperser, LOL running just under the spine.

thank you for the sharing Old Hunter thats a Great looking knife!

I knew it was wrong technical term for it, an terminology.....I was lost as far as trying to discribe it, an remembered thats what allot of my freinds thought it was way back in the day. thanks DM It looks like I need to go brush up on parts anatomy of many types of knives.....LOL Cannelure! for some reason I thought the word had channel? LOL close but not quite right.

Many of us here use incorrect cutlery terms. Think nothing of it. The problem with doing this is, then it's promulgated and others use them thinking they learned the proper term and the problem grows. DM

Self enforcing....LOL I removed my post about P.B.R. by John Wooters. and about terminology liketv shows use an movies & law enforcment using this "The victim was shot at "POINT BLANK RANGE".....a misnomer too!

Great looking knife and photos, Old Hunter. That knife is all business.

DM, LOL excellent link....‘Blood groove’ serves the same function, with added implication of gory intent. and thats why people use it! LOL look at movies an tv today. Lets blame Sly in RAMBO.....LOL they did start quite the craze for survival knives.....

Thanks for the compliments gents, the Buck 118 is hands down my favorite hunting knife. USMule, I remember my Dad explaining the "blood groove" on a bayonet when I was a boy - that sure fired my imagination up. Of course my Dad was probably passing on what he had heard from his time in the Army - from my time I know there are lots of war stories and tall tales to go around. OH

As David said, the term blood groove is a misnomer. The groove has nothing to do with blood. It's purpose is to lighten the blade without loosing strength. A fullered blade is pretty effective if you are carrying something like a claymore, but on small knives like Buck makes it probably is there for cosmetic purposes and to sell knives to people who want a "blood" groove.

Mule, John Wooters was a prolific outdoor writer of the 80's. I liked his style and read as factual every sentence he published. A Texas boy from around Houston. Thanks gents, DM

DM, You like this one, I bought #2 remington bdl's one in 30-06 and one in 25-06 at the same time! heres why first those 2 calibers can pretty much take any game on the North American Continent...from varmits with a 60 grain excellerator, or a 65 in 25-06 or a 90 gr, then work the size of the game up up to Bears etc with different grain and type's of bullets.

But at the time after buying those 2 bolt actions BDLS I had only enough cash to get #1 scope I bought a LEUPOLD VX 2 2X7 and got the mounts for both guns. So I used Wooters PBR system an dialed in both guns with the same scope, How? I used a 120 grain in the 25-06 and 125 grain in the 30-06 they have the exact same F.P.S. etc.....It allowed me to just unsnap the LEUPOLD and transefer it over to the either gun they scope would be adjusted and zeroed for both guns, sometimes you might need to do have to do a minor 1/4 OR HALF MINUTE OF ANGLE CLICK to fine tune the scope so your on target at 100 yards with either gun, but with those #2 bullet grains they had the same P.B.R. out at 100 for bullet drop or rise holding dead ctr.

Wooters was the man!
