Thinking of buying a Buck 277 (Folding Alpha Hunter)

334 dave, The 277 Alpha is heavy. Much heavier than a 119 which is alot more knife. Yet, inorder to build strength into folders its at the expense of weight. The 277 is quite dependable. The blade needs some design changes (a better drop pt) and redesigned choil and make more efficient use of the space would create a longer blade. But I think it achieved what they were after. DM

I edited out your quote to the above part.

I just put a 277 on an analog scale and then a 119 right behind it. Both were within half ounce or so of each other in weight. Was looking at +- 8 ounces.

Just curious what your readings are.

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a Buck 277. Love the way it looks and am very enthusiastic about the materials used.
I will be using it for camping and hiking.

Does any one have any experience with this knife?

Thanks!

I've got the 279, best knife I own, easy opening (unless your playing with it she tends to stiffen up when opened to much) tough, sharp! feels good in your hand.

Great knife!

Dave, within a half oz. (.020lb.)is what I got also. Both weigh in very near half a pound. But the 119 still offers much more blade for the package. Yet, I would'nt carry a 119 around town I'd still carry a 110 or 277 and forget about the weight for its still a great knife. ( well designed) DM

ok,,,I just couldn't imagine the 277/279 weighing that much more, if any, than a 119. Yup,,,two different animals. Hard to compare fixed and folders.

I have both a 277 and a 279 and it is a well made knife. Pack Rat, you are right you cannot compare a folder against a fixed. The biggest folder I have is the 415 and it is still an inch shorter opened compaired to the 119. The 277/279 is an inch shorter than the 419 opened.
