Thinking of buying GEC

I'm a big fan of wood handles. I just feel like they're timeless in their simplicity. I'm not such a fan of jigged or grooved handles but I know many are. Smooth bone, micarta, and wood are my handle materials of choice in my knives under most circumstances.

Good point, this taken in consideration with choice of handle material will help me make a decision.
Also, the store I'm purchasing from lists a rating of factory effort, which happens to rate the Calf Roper lower than the #35. How much should I take this into consideration when making a decision?
I trust Mike's ratings but I believe those are just a general guideline. Having said that, I bought 5 Calf Ropers from the recent run this year and the only issue any of them have is the somewhat light pull and snap on the two secondary blades. That might be why Mike rated them a little lower in overall rating and pull. The build quality on all 5 of mine is superb.

I think I've decided on the Churchill, now its a choice between ebony and clawed cougar bone.
As for how many, it will likely be a while before I can afford another, but I have a feeling I'm opening a can of worms with this purchase ;)
Good choice. Now that you've decided, here's a plug for the Churchill over the Calf Roper that you may have already noticed. The Sheepsfoot blade on the Churchill opens in the same fashion as the Clip blade. You still have to flip the knife around to use your left thumbnail but it opens in a fashion that I like to call "right hand opening" but that's just a term that I made up myself.

The Calf Roper also has to be flipped around but the Sheepsfoot blade opens "left handed". Not a big advantage really but I think I'm going to like this about the Churchill.

Don't give up on that Yellow Rose. They shipped to dealers late this week to the best of my knowledge.

If that's the case and solphilos is looking at buying from collectorknives (only place I know that rates factory effort), I'm pretty sure they have a pre-order or waitlist. I know they have a notification list you can signup for if you create an account on the website. Or ask them yourself to see if they have some on the way.

Looks like if I'm vigilant I may be able to find one of these soon. I didn't know that they were Northfield's, which in my eyes look more refined for only a few extra dollars.
I might have to put some coffee on and stake-out these dealers

Well, the more I looked at the clawed bone the more I liked it, so I ordered it :)

I couldn't wait, I needed to press that button and I'm happy with my choice. Thanks for the advice guys, really helpful. Can't wait to get my first GEC in hand!

Congratulations! I’ve never owned a cougar clawed bone, let us know how you like it.

I'll certainly post a review when it arrives! For now I'm going to admire my favorite slippies, they might feel neglected once this one comes in.

I dont think you will be disappointed when you're gonna buy your first GED, The Walk&Talk is great and the Fit&Finish is awesome aswell.
Personally i think it's safe to say that GEC is one of the best if not the best Traditional pocket knife brand out there.

From everything I've seen and read here I believe it. They also remind me of the knives the older folks used when I was but a pup,and that itself is what really sold me. Well, that and the 1095 steel.
I'm happy with some of the Case knives I've purchased over the years but I've never gotten that nostalgia that I feel when I see some of these GEC knives.

If that's the case I may hold off until they show up. I'm incredibly impatient but that one speaks to me more than the others.
I got notified a couple days ago that it was time to pay for mine.

(I thought I was replying to "Don't give up on the yellow rose")
