Thinking of getting a .22...

There is always a big sign at my local WalMart that says "No .22 Ammo". One of my friend's said he did get some there when he happened to be there just after a delivery.

Another friend bought a box of 500 at Dick's last week. They only let him buy one.

I have noticed a big dip in gun prices almost across the board here. I think people bought way to many during the last big scare and are now trying to sell off a few.

Yeah you bet, part of the reason why AR15s dropped in price so much. That's always a big one when scares happen and the past 2 years there was a huge blowout of them being made/bought and the market got flooded. Works for me. Glad I didn't buy mine during all that. Just put together a really nice mid length AR in 223 for like $570 all together.

Still having a hard time finding it locally, but I'm starting to see availability of 100 round bricks increasing. Still none of the 300+ round "value" packs though, and stores that do have bricks in stock are still limiting quantities.

And here is a perfect example of why there is a perceived shortage. :grumpy: People buying everything they can get their hands on when they already have more than enough, only to turn around and try to resell it at inflated costs. :thumbdn:
I didn't even mention the 30round AR mags I sold and traded. I don't even own an AR, but just after Sandy Hook a friend gave me a couple of dozen to sell or use in barter. Those things went FAST too.

Neither .22LR cartridges or 30 rnd AR mags are life's necessities so I have no guilt. None at all. It's not that fools and their money are easily parted. It's that fools and their money are often lucky to have ever met in the first place.

Nothing more than market forces at work. Ain't America Grand! I certainly think so.

I'm all for keeping yourself stocked up on ammo (I have modest reserves myself, not nearly 10k), but at what point does it become hoarding???
One man's hoard is another man's stock. 10K isn't that much. There are some years I've shot 10K .22lr or .10k 45 ACP in that year. I know one man how once bought a pallet of cases of .22LR cartridges. Something like 250K cartridges. Since that purchase he has never and will never again buy a .22LR cartridge nor will his kids and grandkids need to when they inherit his .22 rifle collection. He chuckles when others complain about the prices for .22LR. Different strokes for different folks.

They may be, soon! Anyone else paying attention to the economy? There are worse places to park your money in '15 - much worse places. :)

Seeing many posts saying 22 ammo is available is a positive sign but I have yet to see it in my area. Last Friday I checked Wal-Mart, Sportsman's Warehouse, Gander Mtn, Dick's Sporting Goods, along with two small gun shops. There were no bricks, no hollow points, no high velocity, only a few boxes of over priced target ammo.

That certainly sucks. Cabelas had some on my last visit as they opened a store up in the area and now it isn't such a big deal to visit one of their stores. Bass Pro.... same deal..... Gander always seems to have some these days although it is always expensive. I used to buy the CCI SV target ammo at Dicks frequently.... not so much anymore although I haven't really looked in months as I have about 10K (perhaps more) of them cached. I'd pick up 2 bricks every visit and at the time they ran about $25 a brick. Price went up to around $30 and haven't seen any since. I don't plink with them, so that amount will last me years.

Ammo and mags are definitely good investments... They hold their price very well and often even increase.
