Thinking of making a batch of mid tech slip joints, thoughts and ideas???

It's definitely a 'Marmite' idea as we say over here (some love it, some dont!):)

I for one really like the idea, Kudos for giving it a go. Perhaps try to get your hands on a few production modern slipjoints to see how thngs can be done (Enzo PK70, Spyderco UKPK...).

I picked up one of Pena's takedown models and really enjoy it (haven't tried to take it apart yet...!).

Agreed that if you can keep under that $200 bar and offer a consistant product then you've got something:)

Lanny's clip would be my choice. Very versatile, comfortable and well known frame.

Great thread, good luck:)

The only way you'll know for sure is to try it and see if it sells. *cough sunk joints cough* I personally hope you give it a go.

Found this in one of my old sketchbooks today. Maybe not a contender for the hopeful final product but who knows?

Id be in for that bottom sketch made in m4, XHP or S35vn, with a screw pivot, at around 4" and $200. I don't really care about the rest of it being screw construction as i don't really need to take any of my knives apart that are well made, but having a pivot i can adjust for wear is a plus in my eyes.

These are probably more in line with what I want to do.

I'm also not totally opposed to the idea of using pins. I just thought screws would be a cool feature.

There would definitely be a market for your work. I agree with the others that a two blade is more desirable. Some type of jack would be great. Eureka, English, Gunstock, in that vein. Great knives that are timeless in design.

Like 2 full sized blades like a clip and wharnie, or a full sized and a pen blade?

Myself, a full size clip, then a small wharnie, is the preference. The wharnie makes a wicked slicer. That's me though. :)

Cooper,

I really like the design sketches you show of the clip blades above , particularly the top one in post#27 and that in post #28. If you could pull's one that looks similar in construction to the Peña Lanny's Clip shown by Sam/avoidspam (post #22), and in the $200 range, you have a winner that will sell like pancakes (I see myself buying a couple).
Raul
PS. Please add a lanyard hole (could be a very discrete one, like the one on the Peña Lanny's Clip)

Pattern it off an old Remington 1306 in good stainless with a thin grind, solid lock, brown bone or cocobolo and watch them fly off the shelf...

Here's another design, same handle with different blade styles and nicks. Kind of a mini backpocket at 3 5/8".
