Thinned fbm against a 10 penny nail

I don't think I would have been brave enough to hold up a piece of sheet metal while someone threw a Battle Mistress at it. That's a good woman you got there.  :D

Thanks for the experimental confirmation.

Now, however, I am going to go out on a limb:

As I read it, the original testing was done by Rob Simonich, which gives us at least an estimate of when it happened, but it was clearly several years ago. The pictures don't show enough detail to determine if the blade is BMe or SHBM. Anyone know the correct answer?

I also know there has been discussion before that Jerry's heat treatment protocol has changed from the original recipe. The RC level has been dropped a couple of points from what it was back in the day. Perhaps it was the result of just this type of testing?

All this demonstrates is that the current FBM can resist this sort of damage. That is not what the Jerry Hossom post was discussing. He was using it to describe EDGE GEOMETRY weaknesses, not problems with INFI. I am sorry that he felt this was a dog pile. I enjoy these discussions.

Broos...what is this blade from your album? Is this a seax?

+1. I thought that only occurred in Chinese pistol training.

VTW: You should be part of the live Busse challenge demos at their shows. Although I don't think you will see any challenges spring up. :)

i am not afraid to use these knives however i see fit, not because jerry offers to replace them if they fail, but because i have never had them fail...... alot of people offer to replace knives if they fail, and i dont have any of thier knives ....why? cause they failed.

You've got to love a man who lives his life with such passion.

Keep it up.

VTW... Love these pix, bud! :D

Wow!!! Great tests VTW! I knew there was a reason why I keep spending money on the toughest knives around :)

That video was darn cool Broos!

The BM that was dented by that nail might have had a very different edge geometry. It was sharpened to match the other knife, and we don't know the nail used in the test.
Nice pictures. I just cant bring myself to do that to my only FBM.
I admire your intestinal fortitude

i just wanted folks that may be new to busse to see this thread..... i no longer care about the other thread as i feel my experiments have...... well shed light on the subject

I really like the idea of a thinned FBM or with my budget a thinned Dogfather as it is as close as you can get to a cutting competion bowie without going full custom.
