Thinning The Herd.

Here are a few more pictures.I hope these further illustrate the thinness of this 112.

Buck is probably inundated with suggestions about new ideas and concepts for future knives.

If they offered a Slimline series I would be a buyer.

Very true. I’m sure they have a dozen a day. If a “slimline” means anything like what I’ve seen of yours and others work thinning them out, I’d have to say I agree.

Very nice work. I think if I had one done, I might do two. One to use, and one to just look pretty ;)

I made a post in the Buck fantasy knife thread, with a photoshopped 55/501 mashup. A bigger, proportionate 55 blade on the 501 handle size. I think the thin 112 would be even better

You done good work on that knife, it looks great. I love to carry a slimmed down 112, no other knife compares. It would be very cool if Buck introduced such a thing into their catalog, I bet they would fly off the shelves.

A more pocket friendly 112 has lived in my dreams for a long time. Make mine thinner, bare head, and a blade hole like the Vantage...please, pretty please.

They look great! I like the bluewood too. Was it from buck?
You never know until you try. The key is just do it. I've said it here before. It takes a lot of balls to tear into a new knife hoping to make it better or just different. But unless you try...

After tiguy7 commented on this yesterday,I took the opportunity to reread this thread and realized I had not responded to kossetx's comment.

It does take some grit to grind on a perfectly good knife. The vision of something new and different for my collection is what drove me,at least as far as this project is concerned.

View attachment 910315 Buck never issued any 560’s with screwed construction. You can remove the 4 rivets and replace them with screw sets. The 1/8” diameter barrels are internally threaded (#2X56TPI). Each barrel needs 2 screws. Often the barrels and screws need to be adjusted (shortened) to fit.

Yes I did know that.I should have been more clear. The Buck,to which I was referring, was the model with the pocket clip and it's screw construction.

The information you posted here will be the basis for a future project.

Thank you.

The Model 186 Titan has a large belt clip, and it was dsigned to be carried on the right hand side outside the belt. The belt clip does not flex but has a boss on the underside near the tip to aid retention. The knife has 4 places to insert screws, and they came in various lengths to assemble the knife with or without a clip and/or assembly tool.
The options were: 1) No clip or tool, 2) Tool only, 3) Clip only, and 4) Clip and tool.
