This catalogue makes me sick.

The Edge Company is still out there, not really a knife company any more, more to the "Techno Yuppie" lines.

I have three of their Crawford design frame locks. My first one-handers. One in the basic stainless, one all black, and one with a walnut handle. Not a bad knife at all for under $50.

Lol. the Edge is still around, but sell slightly different stuff now, mainly watches and garbage like that. They still sell knives, but not like they used to. I have an old catalog of theirs and actually visited their store in VT a few years back when I was camping near there. They had Crawford customs in their catalog, as well as some benchmades, and good quality stuff, but a lot of it is junk.

While I'm not an "official spokesperson" for Master Cutlery, I can tell you this:

When I was approached by the Master Cutlery representative, I was told that Master was attempting to get away from the number of "knock-offs" that they distributed. That is why they started working with Dr. Fred Carter a few years ago - to begin offering knives designed and authorized by makers. I agreed that replacing "knock-offs" with authorized designs was a good idea, and signed on to do a few designs for them. I understand there are other makers who are now working with Master Cutery on similar projects.

It might take a while until Master can offer a full line of authorized designs. (The first knives I designed came to market after about a year of development.)

Master Cutlery is both a manufacturer and a distributor. Several of the items you saw on their website are actually made by other companies.

I hope the success of the new collaborations allows Master Cutlery to discontinue distribution of these "knock-off" items. I also hope they continue to offer better products, like the "Gigand" series of knives designed by Fred Carter. From what I understand, these are two of their main goals.

Tom, thanks again for the info. I really appreciate the collaborations made between custom makers/designers and production companies and it is always good to see new exiting designs come out by reputable companies. I don't know if the knife BudK sells for under $7.00 is the actual Mohawk Warrior collaboration with Master Cutlery, but the picture shown in their catalogue clearly shows the Master Cutlery logo and your name on it, except that BudK calls it the Striker.
