I'll finally admit, I'm collecting 112's, and I'm confused:confused:. Previously Joe H. posted in my 432 thread "The 112 was introduced in 1972, May in fact. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there in print on the 112. The first ones will have black micarta inlays, brass spring holder that is a separate piece, not part of the right hand side, and the blade will be marked BUCK, U.S.A. without a nail nick."
Then I'm reading in good old Blade's Guide and find that the Second Version's spring holder was changed from brass to stainless, soon after its introduction. Then, later in the Second Version, the blades were stamped in 3 lines, "BUCK, 112, USA".
Then I find this 112 on ebay, bid several times, re-read posts and books and can't bring myself to buy it, because it may be a reblade.
It had a brass spring holder, micarta inlays, and a 3 line tang stamp. I'm thinking if it's a 3 line tang stamp, with micarta inlays...that spring holder should have been stainless.
Are there 3 versions of the Second Version???
1) Stainless spring holder, micarta inlays, inverted 2 line tang stamp "BUCK USA"
2) Stainless spring holder, micarta inlays, 3 line tang stamp "BUCK 112 USA", read tip up.
3)The ebay knife..Brass spring holder, micarta inlays, 3 line tang stamp "BUCK 112 USA", read tip up
Should I have this headache from doing something I enjoy?;)

Boy, Scott, what a predicament:confused:.

So what I would have done(you didn't ask WWPD;)) being the implusive, lustful(I lust for a micarta 112) individual that I'm...is bought it, bought it, bought it:eek: :D . They're just neat knives.

I do need to ask two things...did it have the blade without the nail nick? What did you do??? Preston

People that say it just doesn't matter don't usually have worthwhile collections.

There you go...that's me...I buy what I like and tickles my fancy;) :D ;). My collection is worthwhile to ME:thumbup: :p . Preston

There was no nail nick, but like I said, I placed a couple of bids, then did more research. The knife sold for $157.50, so you understand why I would prefer to know I'm correct with the knife I purchasing.

Scott, that kind of money would squelch my lust right quick:eek:...but I still want one:cool:.

Buck_110, no problem, I said that tongue-in-cheek(sorta), and thanks for all the great information that you give out here. I have learned much and appreciate it greatly. Preston

cool thanks preston i dont think i would have figured that out for a while lol
so is that like brushed stainless or a plated ?

okay guys whats the btst 1911 ?
i perked up when i seen 1911 lol

ahhh....now we know h0w to rattle your cage and get a response! will ahve to remember that one mate! :D
does dusty springfield do any thing to you also?;)

yes i agree if you are getting in to high end stuff you need to be sure you are getting what you pay for...
me ... i jest bought a 110 that in the pict looked like a beater..
so i asked what marks were there other then buck 110 usa
he said 'it only says buck' nothing else...
so i sent him 30 and will take the chance it is a fiber filler like it looks in the pict.. if not a one liner for 35 inc shiping is a deal any time... right?

...so is that like brushed stainless or a plated ?

It's stainless steel with a bright, mirror-like polished finish.

Here's the pic I posted in The Gallery(thread name Guns and Knives:)) sometime ago...

nice combo there preston
and now thats another thread i have to watch
that looks pretty much the same as mine and they call it nickel plated stainless so ill have to investigate and maybe put up a few pics of the meager few 112's i have to get the thread back on topic
and dave i dont mind cage rattling and yea i even have the dusty springfield boxset , billie holiday too

the amt is the brushed stainless and the colt is nickel plated

Nice pistolas and cutters...I doubt if that Delta is nickle...I'm thinking the Deltas came out after Colt's quit making nickle plated guns...I think it's the same as my OACP, BTST:D ;) :D.

If you have the box it should say on the end. Preston

So, anyone care to speculate as to whether or not there were 2 or 3 versions of the second version 112?

...Scott..."Category II" had Three versions as I recollect.
VERSION I:
· Mark side blade stamp, BUCK, 112, USA
· Stainless Steel rocker rivet
· 440C Stainless steel blade
· Black Micarta inlays
· Two, small brass inlay rivets
· Stainless steel spacer/spring holder
VERSION II:
· Same as Version I, but inlays changed to Sequa Wood
VERSION III:
· Same as Version I, but inlays changed to Macasar ebony.

Hope this confuses ya more yet...LOL...I sure are confused...LMBO...And there's probably more variations around as well...

Scott, sorry about the hijacking:o.

Joe H. wrote an article in the September 2002 BCCI newsletter..."Buck Ranger, Model 112 Timeline 1972 to 1986". Do you have that?

The knife that you saw on the bay does not fit in any of the categories or versions. Joe would be the one to say if it could have come from the factory as such.

You know they use parts from time to time that may have been over runs or misplaced and found at a later date:rolleyes:. Preston
