Just ordered a KaBar full size tanto, model 1245, with 8 inch blade. Came yesterday. Stripped off the black coating on the 1095 blade. Reground the edges, and sharpened the false edge. Plenty sharp. Performed a forced patinization. Whatcha think?

Thanks for looking. :)

I think it looks pretty sweet! You made the blade look like a tough, well used custom almost. Good job:thumbup:

Fantastic job.

Did you post pics of another knife patina recently with another fb? If yes I

think the first knife you did a patina on had little better pattern to it IMO.

You 'done good' on both knives.

Thanks! Earlier today I showed the knife to some friends. One of them, who is not a knife knut, wanted to know how old the knife was, as he thought it was really old. When I told him that it was new, he was slightly incredulous. He liked it too. One fellow said it was a "pretty good piece of machinery" :D

Yes, this is the second one, and the other is in my avatar. As I used grapefruit, the pattern that comes out is not entirely predictable, plus the grapefruit is squished under pressure on the blade. Can't really tell what it'll look like until after it comes out.

I like the effect overall, and agree that the other one is better.
