This Emerson opened as I pulled it out of my pocket. what do I do for safety?

My local pistol permit office is inside the county sheriff's building and you have to pass through a metal detector to get in. As I hurriedly emptied my pockets of things to hand to the officer before walking through the metal detector, my Emerson Commander waved open with a nice "thwack" and I ended up presenting it to him open and point up. It could have easily been misinterpreted as a hostile act and I wouldn't have been surprised if he drew on me. Luckily, he must have been an Emerson guy as he only chuckled.

The Wave opening feature is wonderful, except for the few situations where it's not. :)

If you carry them in a back pocket, you can manipulate them from opening, by sliding your index finger down the spine and applying pressure to the wave. It's just a little different doing the motion from the front pocket....

When you're pulling a waved knife out of your pocket, if you don't want to open it, grasp it when you're pulling it out so that your hand holds the blade in the closed position. Then make sure to twist it so the Wave notch doesn't catch on your pocket as you pull it the rest of the way.
