You guys (and girls) are dangerous to my pocketbook (and I maybe sleeping on the couch for months). I had gotten away from traditional knives in favor of thumbstuds, linerlocks and A/Os. Since I found this forum and got into RR, Marbles and Colts I've bought over two dozen knives since Xmas. Shame on all of you for leading folks like me down the path of compulsive collecting. I've been a collector for over 60 years, but never gone this totally nuts. Love the knives, but how does one stop when there are so many neat, inexpensive yet good quality knives out there? Is there a Knives Anonymous Chapter near by? I may be sending a bill for psychological consulting and/or bankruptcy lawyers fees. No more posting pics of great knives!

It gets uglier. I'm starting to look at customs and the custom section to get a traditional in my modern blade steel of choice.

I really didn't see that one coming.

Don't tell me that! I can't afford to get into customs. Need a roof over my head more!

I can't either but I'm looking at 'em! The funny thing is it was the RR's and colt' s that sucked me into like traditionals in stainless. I got my first mid tech modern in December and now it wants a buddy in traditional format.

There's more than a few production slippie I'd like to get as well. All in due time.

Be warned; customs multiply...

RichS, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Maybe there's never been a better time than right now for traditional knives (knives in general too maybe?). I have to hydrate just to replace the drool!:D

So Rich, so far you've been buying only Rough Riders, Colts, and Marbles? At least those are among the most affordable currently-produced traditional knives. If you are worried about your spending, stay away from Great Eastern Cutlery.

If you've bought over 24 knives in just over a month, maybe it truly is time to take a breather and just enjoy and carry what you have for a while.

Enjoy it! Find a style, brand or maker you like and seek just those.

I'm knife rich!

I have more pictures of slipjoints than I do of people.

Rich, look at me. Over here!

It's okay, it's fine to collect some knives. At least you're buying Rough Riders, which is a great low cost good value pocket knife that will take care of what you need to cut. But better still, you can collect pretty much all the classic traditional patterns for very little money. The Rough Riders will let you try out all the patterns so you will have an idea of what patterns work better for you both aesthetically and practically. That way, when you decide to go with more expensive brands like GEC, you'll waster less time on patterns that don't work for you.

This way, when you decide to go for that custom from Tony or Ken, you'll know hat you like.

that's easy: switch to quality over quantity, which translates to specific occasion over frequent impulse. gift yourself on your birth day, christmas, a raise, or anniversary. sell older, redundant models (better yet, give them to friends --it's better than shopping for brand new gifts.)

Rich, 15 years or so you got me into Japanese swords and fittings, not chip by all means. It's revenge time now :D One point in favor of me is that you can carry your knives every day, I'can't carry my sword as much as I want.

Welcome to a very special club, all the help you need is here

enough with the making sound inevitable, like there's no way of escaping destiny. the guy was looking for help...or is he just bragging about the number of knives hes got since xmas?:p

Definitely need help. I've always been knife/sword crazy, but this has been bordering on excessive compulsive disorder.

BTW, I've had, over the years, several customs both fixed and folders but never went this overboard on anything. Didn't find them any more satisfying then the RR, Colts and Marbles.

Mike - That was back in the old days when you could get a good gendaito or average wakizashi in good condition for about $300. Now those were the good old days!

Rich, You won't get any help on this forum when it comes to staying away from compulsively buying "just one more" pocketknife - the crowd here are either pocketknife addicts or enablers! Spend some time looking over 1960's and 1970's Case pocketknives - you can thank me later. OH

Mike,that Oeser is jaw dropping.

You should start hunting up the pawn/antique shops for some vintage slippies. I'd think there must be some hidden gold in your part of the country.

BTW, same RichS on LS2?

LS2??

Can't get around much anymore. Use to do and go to a lot of shows, flea markets, etc. Unfortunately those days are over :-(
