This is America - Pinewood Derby

I wish more boys got to experience this kind of fun. Cub Scouting can get a little corny at times, but almost without exception the boys have a great time and learn something about America along the way. I wouldn't miss it for anything.

I know what you mean but it's surprising how some stuff we think as corny the kids take it to heart with such innocent earnestness. The memories your boy will have are 100% priceless. God bless...

Ahhh I remember those days, my dad was one of our scout leaders, we did the pinewood derby one year, I had a lot of good memories in Boy Scouts, loved the camping trips those were always my favorite. its good to see these traditions are still carried on to this day... Hopefully I can do the same thing with my son one day...

We've got our Pinewood Derby coming up in March. We have a blast every year. Some of the designs are . . . well . . . creative. ;) My son's this year will be an Acme dynamite crate, with a fuse out the back.

Scouting is definitely different from my childhood, that's for sure. I can't give a knife to a kid here, but I've let the parents know that I have a stash of SAK's at home if they want one. A few go out every year.

thx - cpr

Wish Singapore scouts had stuff like this.

I'm giving a box of knives (SanRenMu) to my patrol some time next month...know they'll be well loved. I'd get better but I can't afford it.

I'm gonna bump this back up to to see if anyone else has been racin' in their local derbies the last few weekends. I've seen a lot of activity around my office in this regard. Post your pics if you have them!

What happened to the "you can only use what is in the official kit" rule?...Legos on a Pinewood Derby Car?:p
