Hip Hip Horray!!!!!

only one jerry story. my fbm's had gotten lost in the shuffle a bit. i called a few times, but they werent ready yet. most of the guys who had ordered after me had already rec'd theirs.

got an email from amy saying they were shipping shortly, and that jerry had given me a 100.00 shop credit for being patient.

pretty cool.

Had a chance to speak with him when I launched the reference site, all I can say is that it was a pleasure to speak with the Boss Hog!

I have read a lot of articles with Jerry, that I've found here and there... he really did come from a humble background, and really REALLY worked HARD to get where he is... a true inspiration to anyone who wants to achieve something, no matter how big...

He also popped in on my thread about a small dent in my FBM, and said not to worry, its no chip, and it'd sharpen out really well, or I could just send it in for repair FOC!!!! with a big :D after it... what a gent...

I convexed the edge myself after that.. I believe in Busse BIG TIME... its like Ronseal quick drying wood stain in England... catchphrase: "it does exactly what it says on the tin"

:p

I could tell you but I'd have to kill you afterwards.... Needless to say... the Busse Family has the best customer service in the industry. On a scale of 1-10 Busse is 20+ and second place would be lucky to come in at 5

exactly !!

It was funny last year at blade when myself Ducci, PG and Hammy, gave him the truth serum at the bar and he spilled the beans on all his secrets. We learned a lot that night.

A typical Jerry tale:

I bought a Groove Master and made an offhand comment in a thread here that I was somewhat disappointed in the fit and finish of the handles (they were misaligned on the tang). Without any further discussion, Jerry offered to fix it at no cost.

I bought my SHSH in '98. First time dealing with Jerry and I was worried about the long delivery time. Back then $300 plus was a lot of money to spend on a knife (who am I kidding, it still is!). Well, it took a long time but the knife finally came, and what a knife it was (and still is). In the package was a letter explaining why the delay occured and a shop credit. Well I lost the shop credit but found it recently and Jerry ok'd the use of the credit on my FBMLE after all those years. Besides I got to talk to Kendra and Amy so that was a good thing! Thanks BOSS HOG!

Words Fail Me

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't even write this without developing a few tears.

I have mentioned my daughter Kimberly and her condition as the result of a hit-and-run. She is also a long-time knife nut. She was still in a nursing home last year at Blade time, but this year my wife Kathy and I took her to Blade. She loved the knives and most of all, the people. She particularly wanted to meet Bill, insisted on taking her "Semper Fi" cap that he sent her, and he got several hugs out of the deal. I saw some big old grown men wipe their eyes as she interacted with them at the various tables. (Mike, I won't mention who some of these men were. ) But as far as she was concerned, the best was Friday night. That was when Jerry and Jennifer took a group to dinner and Jerry inducted a couple of old farts as Hogs. Then he dubbed her Kimberly Hamhock, the second ever Hoggette, presented her with her Tee Shirt, and also an E-handled Steel Heart with the following inscription on the blade: BUSSE COMBAT "GUTS" AWARD Presented To Our Hero, Kimberly. That little girl had a fantastic evening that she will remember for a long time to come. She has never exactly shied away from being the center of attention anyway, and was in her element.
You all should have seen her back at the hotel afterward, working on her version of the cloven hoof salute.

Thank you everyone, especially Jennifer and Jerry. As I overheard one gentleman at another table at dinner comment even before all of this took place, "This shows that Busse isn't just about the knives." As Kim would say, "Dang Right"! "

I've heard lots of good stories since starting to hang out here, but, Mike, yours is one of the best!

Prayers for your daughter.

The most special - a Bussy Custom Shop Active Duty.

This one requires background. My then 21 year old daughter Kimberly was lying in a nursing home in 2003, having just come out of a vegetative state from being struck in a hit and run in 2002. She was just becoming able to respond to things said to her. I had just received a new Active Duty, and took it to the nursing home to show her. As a child she had been my hunting and fishing buddy, an avid outdoorswoman. When I held the knife up in front of her, she reacted to it, smiling and giving a feeble thumbs up. Then and there I promised her that I would save it for her, for the time when she could hunt with me again.

I told this story on the Busse forum. About a week later a package arrived, containing another Active Duty, and a note from Jerry and Jennifer saying that their prayers and thoughts were with Kim, and that they were replacing the AD that I had promised to Kimberly. This is my Active Duty, a gift from the Busses, and it will never, ever be for sale. It being a superb little knife and one of the best Busse models ever made is just a bonus."

mike, thx for sharing those again. i am inspired each time i read about kimberly and her experiences.

Thanks for sharing MikeH! I hope your daughter is much better now. Busse people are great. Always helpful and friendly. My special thanks go to Vicki - thanks to her I got my Lep Warden and as a bonus - a free Busse Combat cap!!! She was vary very friendly and helpful.

Blade 2003 - I got about one handshake from Jerry. That's because EVERYBODY at the show wanted to shoot the bull and he made time for everyone. When they were turning the lights off at the end of the day, he was still going top speed.

Then, more knives donated for good causes, and not because he ever had to. The Himalayan Imports forum lost two good guys on one day - Bill Martino and Rusty Slate. Jerry made and auctioned two knives for their families. It seemed like they got done in two weeks, real time, maybe even a little faster.

Not only is Jerry a great guy, he sets the tone for the whole Busse Combat ship.

i'll have to think about this... i have talked to the jantior way more than jerry.. can't we talk about the janitor instead?

.

Isn't this just a love fest. Well, no s. What do we have here, a f steelgrinder! Jerry Busse! I admire his honesty. Heck, I like him, he can come over to my house and @#$% my sister!

Sorry. All I could think of was Sgt. Hartman beating on Joker when this thread started.

Bottom line, here's my Busse story - I still can't believe these are called "Production" knives. Sorry. I've seen a few knives with micarta handles. I've never seen "Production" knives with this handle fit-and-finish. Sorry. It just doesn't happen.

Heck, I've paid as much as a large LE "production" blade for a six-shooter that didn't have nearly the fit-and-finish. Even when they espouse their guns to be "semi-custom." Semi-custom my foot. Get your stocks to fit! ;)

That's my story. It's a pimple on the butt of Mike's stories, but it's still sort of a story. And Jerry could come over for my sister, but her husband is 6'6" and 300lbs. LOL
