Added Jan. 6 2011: see post #19 for a super duper knife added for the upcoming winner to consider

Open to all regular participants of this great Schrade forum. If you've just dropped in or not participated by posting at least a few times, please sit this one out.
To enter post something about yourself that helps other members of this Schrade 'family' get to know you a little better. Could be anything; type of work, other hobbies/interest/make-up of your family, number of children, your dog, etc.
A picture would be nice but not necessary.
Winner will be decided Sunday evening Jan. 9, 2011
I will write the numbers 0 to 9 on equal size squares of paper and put them into a bag and ask my daughter to pick out one of these numbers, then put it back into the bag, shake and draw again. If necessary, repeat process until a number corresponding to a post is drawn.
Winner then picks one of these 4 knives and I send it USPS Priority mail.
Please Enter !
To start this off, i have 4 children from ages 33 to 5. Here's a pic of myself and 3 daughters, taken 3 1/2 years ago. My son, 31, is not in this picture.

There he is Roland! Right hand margin beside daughter's shoulder.
Looks like he fell and cain't get up.

Not much to tell here. Kind of funny how I got back into Pk hobby.
Not real funny, just kinda.
After installation of artificial aortic valve in 2003 informed I'd be on coumadin for life.
Started piddling with eekBay, decided anyone on coumadin didn't need to keep their
fixed blade around. Had a 153 Golden Spike I used as part of my SCCA corner worker gear.
Used more at mealtime than for saving trapped drivers in the nick of time. Still had box and sleeve.
Listed it on eekBay and it started taking off. Which raised my curiosity a notch so I started investigating.
This was within a few months of the Schrade USA closing and I had stepped into the midst of the post
closing buying frenzy.
So I sold my Golden Spike to get out of the cutlery bidniss....instead wound up being sucked back in.
The ways of Providence are indeed strange and often beyond human comprehension.
When I'm asked why I collect knives while on coumadin only excuse I've come up with is
I compare it to someone that became a vet even though they're allergic to cats.

Congrats on reaching your 4k milestone and thanks for the chance to participate in the celebration.
Oh yeah, you asked for a picture. Now, let's see.....

Hi, Roland! I would like a chance at that IXL stockman! Here's a pic of my son and I taken a year and a week ago. For some reason people don't snap many shots of me. He is an electrician up Anchorage way. I am a knuckle... er... knifehead down Wyoming way. Happily retired, with an occasional iron in the fire. The goodwife and I recently worked a year and a half with the census bureau in admin. positions, and then we represented our county at the state house of representatives as Silver Haired Legislators (mock session, lobbying, etc.). Had a good autumn in the field with 2 antelope and a mulie in the freezer. I like my knives and guns a la patina. No tactical or "black" for me. So, there ya go.

Congrats on the 4K Roland!

ETA: Several members have reminded me that I am remiss in adding details about myself in this post, so here goes:

I am single, I have two children and three step children, all grown. I have six grandchildren. I do have a dog now, recently acquired. He is a young Llewelyn Setter named Jake. His training is coming along, slow but sure. Eventually he will be my hearing service dog.

I build and service swimming pools and play with my knives. I couldn't say how many I have. I've never stopped to count them. However, most are Schrades or made by their historic ancestors and affiliates. I think I have one Case somewhere. And several Marbles and a few others acquired while chasing pattern ancestors.

I don't have a very current picture handy, but I'll see if I can dig one out for your amusement! Some fine looking gents here with some beautiful kids and spouses!

Roland, what a great gesture. We have two kids, one son and one daughter. There are 4 granddaughters and one grandson. We've lived in extreme weather, Montana now Arizona. I know, its a dry heat. No, its just plain hot but right now its been in the upper 20's at night and low 50's during the day. The choice of knives will be difficult for the winner, they all look great.

Roland,
Thanks for the kind opportunity! I know I haven't been around too much lately. I've once again become hooked on my childhood addiction of bass fishing. I now spend much more time at the pond and less time on the computer, but it doesn't dull my love of Schrades.

I'll have to add a pic a bit later, as I can't do it from here at work. But as for info about me, I'm a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant. I got married to a wonderful woman back in June (and married UP to boot). We have four dogs, including a Shih-Tzu, a Yellow Lab, and two Old English Sheepdogs. I never had kids of my own besides the four-legged furry variety, but now have a grown step-daughter and step-son who are successful and do not require any more help getting through college. I timed that one just right!!:D

OK, able to add pics. The first is of my girls. Sadly, the one on the left with the long hair is no longer with us.
The next is of me and the Mrs.

Nice thread Roland. You have some nice looking daughters, and so do you Duncan and Charlie. Calvin, it also looks like the apple did not fall too far from the tree.

No winner for me Roland, your generosity has already been to Kansas.

Roland,

I have a great wife of 30 years
5 kids 39-20,
4 girls, 1 boy.
2 son-in-laws and 2 grand sons 12 and 2.
Most still live here in NH. Only the 20 yr old is still at home.
3 cats and a dog that thinks he's one of the kids.
I have been a programmer for more than 40 years.

Great idea getting us to know one another a little better.
Thanks

Hey guys, And Roland, thanks for the opportunity! Well I got my start right here at the schrade area of blade forums some time back just like every other new comer trying to figure out what kinda schrade knife I had.. anyway

I Have a wife of 6 years but we have been together since I was 16 and Im 32 now
I have a 4 year old son Evan and 16 month old twins Carson and Claire.
I started working construction when I was 14 years old laying Field tile ( farm drainage work) for about 5 years. I then became a union operator and worked union for 12 years. Then had an opportunity to buy out the Original owner I had first started working for when I was 14 years old. So for the last year Ive been killing myself trying to make this business work. Business is GOOD but as anyone who owns a business knows there is nothing easy about it and if its gonna work there is gonna be blood, sweat and Tears involved, and Im dealing with thoes growing pains right now.

Animals - 2 warmouths( blue gills) they are the only fish we can keep alive LOL and they are free by means of minnow trap.
I love guns and knives Ive been teaching my self to tan animal hydes and some other backwoods man type skills.

My knife collecting has suffered dramatically due to lack of time and $$$$. As my young children require a lot of $$$ and even more of my time which I dont mind at all!!!

Anyone's mama ever tell them "you dont wanna end up digging ditches some day" Well LOL thats me Agri-Tile Inc.

Look foreward to getting to know all of ya a little more Good idea Roland,,- Joel
SORRY FOR ALL THE PICS-

I've posted pics in other threads, but never told a lot about myself. I'm 30 years old, will be married 8 years in June, have one daugher and one on the way. I graduated from Texas A&M in 2003 with my degree in Construction Science and went to work for a small general contractor in Houston as a job site superintendent. When I figured out that company was going nowhere I swapped up to a larger GC and have been working here since as a job site superintendent. I recently finished up my seventh project with this company and have decided to change career paths and begin working in project management.

My wife Angela teaches elementary music and is on her eleventh year of teaching. She sees all of the students in her school from kindergarten to fourth grade. My daughter Jenna will be 3 in March and my second daughter, Morgan is due the first week of April.

Congrats on your 4000th post Roland!! I have a Son and a Daughter, Nineteen and Forteen respectively. I've spent most of my working life in the Electrical panel building and switchgear service industry. The work is varied so It's not the same, day in day out.

Thanks to all who have posted so far. It's a pleasure to see what you look like and read a bit about your life.
Three days to go, so let's spice it up a bit by adding another knife to choose from.
First run of the Schrade-Walden Buffalo Bill Bowie, complete and unused. This is such a solid well balanced fixed blade, it would be a pleasure to use or save for your collection:

So for those holding back, i hope this might entice you to "Go For It".

My name is Frank. I like Schrade knives.
This is in my backyard where I like to sit at the end of the day. Possibly with an alcoholic beverage of some sort. OK, ALWAYS with an alcoholic beverage of some sort.
Thanks for the chance.
