This is my "Day Job". What do YOU do?

ASE L1 Master Certified Automotive Technician
Overall I really like what I do. However, every once in a while I get that car that makes me wish I chose a different career path :grumpy:

I own a dog grooming salon. Which is...kinda weird all things considered, but it's doing well, so I don't question the path destiny laid before me.

RevDevil: It is VERY interesting. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what I do, and I have been doing it for 20 years. I have been a Traveling Surgical Technologist; and have had the pleasure of working all over the US, and have met some truly amazing nurses and doctors. I got to go to Alaska, which has been a dream of mine, since I was 4 years old, with my job.
As cheesy as it is going to sound, I find stories like yours inspirational to a large extent. It's hard for people to find something they are truly content and passionate about at once. I know people that have spend over 20 years looking to find their passion and it eludes them more often than not because of self doubt or fear, or something else. I'd say traveling is absolutely a bonus, nothing enriches a life like seeing it first hand.

OEM body parts aren't that bad. GM could use some help but I digress. The re-furb and knock-off parts, even the CAPA Certified parts, are the ones I hate.

We'll take it out on you just like people take it out on the waitress when the cook screws up but don't take it personal ;) :D .

true, body isn't nearly as bad. service is where we get all our grief. and GM.. well.. I won't even go there. never taken personal, it's just all in a days work! [emoji1]

I'm a structural engineer. I've been doing this a long time and I'm good at it. I like it enough but it can be boring, or tedious, or repetitive, but is challenging enough. Compared to some of the stories here it is pretty dull.

My father owns a garage and during high school and college I worked on cars.

During high school I thought about photography as a profession. I've done some wedding photography and I liked it but it might get old after awhile and it doesn't pay very well.

I would like for my next job to be wearing out Jeep tires, i.e. driving a Jeep around the backroads of Colorado and Utah.

I very much prefer dealer parts in many aspects. Sure, theyre a little more, but theyre also reliable with rarely a fitment issue. We've been ordering much more dealer stuff lately due to the high failure rate of aftermarket crap. So much to the point our corporate office told us we're buying "too many dealer parts."

Congrats on 900 and, did you ask corporate how many re-do's or returns they've had with OEM parts as opposed to aftermarket? ;)

Fortunately, for them, re-dos and comebacks dont affect them. We're an independently owned franchise. Warranty is all on us. All they see are the numbers (profit margins). I much prefer to make a little less and not worry about it coming back. Even if its a part failure, it still doesnt look good in the customer's eyes.

Kinda messed up, huh? There are plenty of businesses that count re-do's and comebacks as another ticket/R.O. so it counts as a point for their store/franchise. The customers satisfaction isn't even considered. The body shop is the same way. Even if they have to pay for it out of their own pocket. An RO is an RO I suppose.

Consultant. I draft scripts and quotes for CEO's of public companies to put into pr's. Tell them what to do when they violate Reg. FD, help them target and meet new institutional investors etc...

Awwwwww. Thank you.

Geologist here. Used to work in the coal mining industry and switched over to the environmental consulting industry. Have been doing the environmental side of things for about 20 years now.

Outdoor adventure instructor. I get to try to push kids out of their comfort zone and learn a thing or two about themselves, and maybe instill, if not a love of the outdoors, at least an understanding of why its important. I see it as giving them opportunities that I got by living on a farm, and hoping that they will grow up understanding that the world around them is important.
