"this Is Not A Joke" [???]

i use firefox with the adblock plus addon, it uses an auto updating ad blocking list and a user generated one if desired.

i rarely use yahoo webmail tho, i use thunderbird mail client to download my yahoo mail. there is a webmail addon with a yahoo module that will download the free yahoo mail, or you can pay a small annual fee for more services and pop3/smtp mail access.

as a layered approach, my firewall also has a build in web control function to block such nasties amongst others.

Obviously, I need to use adware.

Anyone have an opinion on lavasoft?

Easv, I expect advertising. It's the outright scams and lies that are troublesome, especially as Yahoo repeatedly tells me how they are committed to keeping the internet a friendly, clean place.

I also have an ad blocker program that keeps all ads in limbo. I don't recall if it's in the Firefox Browser or an independent program but I can find out later today if you should wish.

I looked in my Add on's a little while ago and I don't have the AdBlock Plus but I do have the NoScript which allows Javascript, Java, and other plug ins only for trusted domains of your choice which effectively eliminates most, if not all ads. :D

You can do a search on the engine of your choice to see if Netscape has an ad blocker or other add on or extension which will block the ads you're getting.

Anyways, here's a solution that might be convenient for you. Dont pick your mail up at the yahoo website, use Outlook Express (or any mail program on your computer) to pick it up for you. Saves you the trouble logging in every time, too.

Outlook and other mail programs can get your mail via a Pop3 server if I remember correctly, and you can also send mail directly from your computer using a SMTP server. Setting it up should only take you about 10 minutes.

I use Microsoft Outlook as I have Office 2000 which is similar to Outlook Express and very little spam makes it through to my home inbox where I send it to a Junk Folder that I empty about once every month or two. But I still have to check my Yahoo Webpage every few days to make sure some legitimate email hasn't been routed to the bulk folder which sometimes happens. :(

But it may just be easier to download Firefox unless you absolutely love Netscape too much too give it up as your browser.:p ;) I resisted using anything but IE for ages and ages even though I downloaded and tried Opera, Netscape, and an older version of Firefox; I was too familiar with IE to give it up.
After seeing all the glowing kudos for the later Firefox I downloaded and tried it again and have never looked back.
The only time IE gets opened is on the rare occasion Firefox won't open a webpage or I have to go to Microsoft Update.;) :D

Yvsa, I do have Firefox on my computer for visitors who prefer it.

I absolutely prefer Netscape 7.0, I think it is a superior browser (well, apart from the pop-up blocker; but that might also be my own fault for not configuring it correctly).

Nescape 8.0 sucks, btw ;)

Keno I don't know how you configured Firefox and I know nothing about how Netscape is configured but this is why I like Firefox. As you can see I have several tabs that open on the same page that has all the forums and sub-forums I frequent. I have another page that opens as my homepage with less tabs that has to do with computer health and operation at first startup and after it loads I go to the folder where I have all these pages and tell it to, "Open All in tabs" and viola!  :D
Only one page shows up on my info bar at the bottom of my computer screen unless I open more than one tab at a time in another tab or window.
Firefox may not be for everyone but Me Likey.;)

The nice thing is that Firefox has several add ons and extensions that you can download to tweak Firefox and any ads, notification of a bad website, and several other goodies to make life easier in the computer world.
I finally did download AdBlock Plus this morning because of the new irritating ads on another knife forum, now I don't see them anymore.:D

Netscape 7.0 has tabs, too. In fact, the way they configured the tabs [especially how you open a new one] is one of the main reasons I like it.

And if there's a problem Netscape cant handle, I can still use firefox or IE 6.0.

Thomas, I got the same thing so I ran my spyware programs. Adaware and spyware blaster found nothing but SPYBOT Search and Destroy found it and eliminated it. The program is free and can be found here Good Luck

Thanks for the clarification Keno, I wasn't sure how Netscape was configured but it looks very usable.;)

Search and Destroy is an excellent program and one that everyone should already have so I was assuming once again.:o :)

I've seen it on my Yahoo mail too. On mine there's no pop-up, it's just another ad banner link built into the page, I ignore it like all the rest. I have AVG and ad-aware running on my system, they seem to keep the gremlins at bay.

Yup. That's the one. Same size as the ads for AT&T, Sears, Classmates.com, Fidelity Funds. I just don't think it's a mistake. I think Yahoo sold them the space - including the space for the scam.
