The world is full of tragedy, and this story is about a terrible attempt to add to that. But one really alert youngster changed what could have been another sorry bit of history into a heroic act.
A quick-thinking Boy Scout foiled an assassination attempt on the president of the Maldives on Tuesday, grabbing an attacker's knife as the man leapt from a crowd and lunged at the leader, an official said. [...]
Boy Scouts in the Maldives are similar to their U.S. counterparts, receiving training in first aid and participating in activities like camping. Their motto is the same as well: "Be Prepared."
The media could be encouraging right thoughts and right action.
I want more stories like this!

After the "Brave Buddhist Monk" thread, I was expecting a terrible pun. But this is even better. I too hope the Scout makes a full recovery, but this goes to show that, despite its failings, the Scouting Movement is one of the best youth programs out there. Would he have stepped up to the plate like that if he weren't a Scout? Maybe. I'm reasonably certain, however, that he did stand in the assassin's way today because he was a Scout.

I agree. There are few other programs out there that help parents instill a sense of personal responsibility and accomplishment like Scouting.

Good to have an uplifting story of courage for a change.
Think how the Virginia Tech thing might have gone down if a few people(other than that teacher) had shown this kind of guts.

Being prepared is good, being alert is best.
Too many people are mostly experienced at waiting for help.
