This is what a couple of warm days will do for you.

Up near the shoulder, where wear from batoning through wood normally starts, there is a perfect strip of unfinished metal, I was wondering if thats from re-profiling the edge, or something different.

Ah.
Yes, that is from reprofiling the edge. I used a belt grinder with the platen removed. This made is a little more like a slack belt and when I layed the knife back to reprofile, I pushed hard enough to force the belt to come in contact with the shoulder. I admired Clich's BK10 and he told me how he did it. So, I thought I'd give it a try. I love the result.

Is it convexed from the slack?

Sounds much faster than how I did it.

The entire grind is not convexed. The edge itself is much thinner than normal, obviously. But it still holds up to some serious work. If I wanted a true convex, I'd have kept going and removed more of the shoulder and all of the black coating, between the edge and shoulder would be gone. I don't want that thin an edge though.
