17.5 inch 19 ounce Sirupati by Lachhu. Satisal wood handle. Light and fast knife for your collection

As beautiful as mine is, 29 oz is too much for my spine. Sometimes it sucks being disabled. Guess it'd be different on a shorter blade, but at 21"??? its too much for me to handle. This lighter version would be doable, at least I think so since my villager is the same weight......I wonder how much the added length effects how the weight feels?

I think that and a WWII 16.5" 23oz would be a good combo. Still need to try one of these wwII's and see if I can deal with the weight.....I think so, but nice that I have the villager so I dont have to rush.

Good thing I got such a good deal on mine from "auntie", at least it'll make a good one to trade. Strange how sad it makes me, even thinking about packing it up. I guess ill look into how to post my siru in the trade section of the forum.

I think you have to be a Gold Member to sell stuff in the exchange. Not sure if Basic lets you in there or not. I just renewed and was gonna go Basic but figured I better stick with Gold.

hawk we can work it out regardless, heavy knives are a burden on the people with bad backs/shoulders -- totally understand needing smaller weights. I am sure you can find a way to make it good by either sending back ,or moving to a friend and creating another HIKV infectee? you have options , this problem has been encountered before!-- but bawanna is right, we are not allowed to sell or trade unless gold member, its why I did it :D

Gold member to sell.
At least a basic membership to trade.
All sales/trades/want to buys must be posted in the Exchange forum though.

thanks karda-- I always forget the details !

either way hawks, you will find the right blade for you! HI always delivers.

Hawk.. An AK Bowie is about 24oz. Not much lighter but the weight is spread out due to being chiruwa handle and shorter. There is plenty of chopping power and they are distally tapered on both ends so well they feel very lively. and they are gorgeous! something to consider. Sirus are great all around light blades too so if you dont have a favorite traditional Khuk then you made a good choice.

All other things being equal, extra length can greatly affect how the weight feels, because it pushes the center of gravity farther away from your hand. A few ounces weight difference is also very noticeable.

Of course all other things are rarely equal. Different models have different weight distributions. A chiruwa-style handle tends to pull the center of gravity closer to the hand, etc.

Here's a picture of a Munk Chunk Bowie that is quite heavy (35 oz), but relatively short (15" overall length). I can feel the weight when I hold it, but because the center of gravity is close to my hand the knife is easy to control.

Wow David, thats a beast. I am so happy with my kvluk villager and this siru shows up at the same weight to confuse me. Not to mention the guy raving about his new 18" WWII. It his fault im going to have to get a 16.5" version for myself......eventually.

Length, weight and distribution are crucial to how a kukri handles, and it makes it hard to chose one when you can't go and hold a bunch to figure out what'll work for you. My 16.5" 20oz KLUVK is light and fast, I think it must be similar to a sirupate. My 21" 32oz chitlangi is a bit slow, I'm not sure what to do with it, it's too heavy to use for light brush, but to long for chopping. It is so hard to let one go though once its in your hands. I'm just kind of waiting for a while to see where my heart goes with it. I think I'd really like a light 21" 25oz chitlangi. (Ya'll may see that in the exchange sometime.)

Seems like its so much dependent on your body and strength. I just let go of a 18" 37oz AK because it was just too much knife for me. I knew it was too heavy, but it was still hard to let go of. I know that knife is meant for someone, and they'll love the weight and balance. (There's plenty of men out there bigger and stronger than me, some women too.)

Good luck finding your blade hawk.

Xylum. My Single fuller chit is 21" And 25 oz. It really is fast and a great brush cutter. Its light enough to cut grass no problem and can still do some medium duty chopping. The KLVUK and Siru are quite a bit difference in feel. KLVUK is fast but its forward weight and short length make it more of a chopper as compared to the Siru. The Siru and the Chitlangi have a very similar feel for the same length but the Siru is made with a bit thicker edge than the Chitlangi The Chitlangi feels a bit lighter because of the fuller but has thinner edge. Your 32oz Chit does seem pretty heavy compared to what i have. I think you would really enjoy a lighter Chit in the 25oz range or even a Gelbu special with a thickend Ang Khola like edge for chopping and fullered for lightness. I have all of them blades if you have any more questions. Sorry if ive confused ya! In general order from chopper to fighter/brush wacking is Gelbu,Siru then Chitlangi.

Ndog, you've kind of confirmed what I was thinking. That I need a 21" 25oz chitlangi. I love the double fullers on them, they just look gorgeous. What is the difference in edge/blade geometry between the single and double fuller chitlangi?

I'm also thinking of staying with the shorter (<18") kukris and maybe branching out for a machete like blade, finding a bolo or something for those jobs.

Yes im with you on the double fullers. Chitlangi is one of the most beautiful blades in the lineup in my opinion. I do have a 17.5 inch Chit as well and boy is it light and sweet. In fact that was my first blade from HI. My environment here was unique at the time because we lost our forest to fire and as everything grew back I needed a blade with longer reach to keep weeds etc under control. This is when I got the 21" Single fuller chit. Ill measure and get back to ya. My grandkids are hovering around me at the moment. It is definitely a good idea to have a dedicated chopper especially if you have stuff close to home and dont have to worry about packing the extra weight. Thats where my Chiruwa AK and 20"AK come in handy.

Sorry to be such and evil tempter hawk3/21 muahahahha. I just couldn't resist showing it off, it hasn't left my hands all weekend. You wont be disappointed when you decide to pull the trigger on the 16.5. I was surprised how light the 18 ww2 actually felt... I just got done weighing it and its EXACTLY 32oz on the dot. They said it would be around 2lbs give or take and few. I was surprised how light it felt when holding it. The blade shape is a little different than I am use to. It stays narrow a pretty good way past the handle before the belly starts to flare out. The flare or bend starts a lot further from the handle than other kukris. It has a great feel to it but I like you would like something a little faster for a fighting blade.

most of the blades are deceptive in their weight-- that falcata in shavru's collection weighs 3 lbs or 4 I think but feels less than half that weight because of balance. so dont judge entirely until you hold the style in the size, as each model holds weight differently.

If I want a dedicated fighter, I would go with my Padam Suga Knife, Trisul, or if I had one, a Cherokee Rose.

I can do very well, with a 15" - 18" UBE, Bashpati, BAS, WWII, or similar blade configuration, as long as it is light and fast enough.

Chainpuri is a very good choice for a fighter. Mine is sleek and smooth. That being said, speed for me seems to be more about the balance than an absolute weight. As Gehazi points out that falcata is a big heavy beast. But it flows well. Most of the forms I use are flowing movements not hard stop/start movements so the weight is not quite as crucial. Depending on your style, mine is based more on constant flowing motions with redirects. So a bit of weight actually works well. That being said, I doubt I would grab my bonecutter for fighting if I had time to get something lighter and longer. And yes, I continue to love my Padam Suga but the Trisul I added a little while ago is quickly gaining. Even though a curved blade is a bit better fit for my style. I have lately taken to trisul in the primary hand for fast stabbing attacks or if feeling really happy the Falcata used for slipstep style and Padam Suga in the off hand with either one. The sharpened swedge and shape add a lot of options for an offhand attack from a parry. Wicked!!

Yeah, I think thats why it looks so nice. The long narrow section really makes the shape of the full section stand out

Gehazi, it that the beatiful small sword with the double curve handle? If so, I need to write the name down. Its about the sweetest I've seen.
