ABS...great organization, great people. They seem only too happy to ruin your life too. Big assist to RJ and Les. As fast as they can teach you to make knives, Les will teach you to sell them faster.

Wish I could post a pic instead of a download.

That is awsome. I have been making knives almost completely on my own, for a little longer than 15 months, and I can't imagine turning out a knife like that. I wish I had some more fellow knifemakers in my area, but I don't have much free time, and there aren't a lot of makers living near me. I have been impressed with your work since the first time I saw you post it here on bladeforums. I know you have been working hard at knifemaking for the last year or so and it definately shows. Anymaker would be proud of that knife whether after 15months or 15 years.

You are doing very good, Dan. I stumbled on my own for about 9 years and then I joined the ABS in 97. The support and information is there for you. As Greg Neeley said "Always do the best you can and you will get better".
Welcome to the heat n beat bunch :).

Thanks, guys. I really mean this to be a tribute and a thank you to the ABS and everyone who is helping me. Also to encourage other beginners to get into the ABS, and take advantage of their school.

Dan

I signed up for the ABS yesterday! :D

A couple friends and I plan on going to the ABS school this summer!

Dan,
They "ruint" me after just the first two weeks of the intro class we were in! Nice looking work, Bubba!

Lets see if this works for your picture...

Dan,

That looks great. And I second (third) the endorsement for the ABS. The most generous group of professionals I have ever encountered.

Looking great Dan!

Will you have that one at the Reno show?

I really like your inlay work, it really makes that piece stand out...but the knife is still beautiful on its own.

I agree the ABS is a great organization...now if only I could afford to go down and take some classes. I've heard many guys say they couldn't afford NOT to. But you gotta' have some money first...coming all the way from WA.

Thanks for sharing Dan! :)

Man that's beautiful! You sure have that flat grinding down, none better. Thanks for sharing, it's fantastic.

That's great! I love the shape and flow, but the inlay realy sets it off.

I just joined the ABS recently, haven't been able to atend any classes yet, but am planning on it.

Man, that knife just keeps calling to me as the perfect camp type knife. I really like that style of the handle; the single guard and roomy ricasso area; and the blade shape. All these things really flow together on this knife.

Right on Danbo. For a camp knife, I'll take a dropped handle for increased chopping power/efficiency and a single guard so I can put my thumb on the spine for push cuts, whittling, control, etc. The straight handles and double guards look great, but I don't think ther are ideal for a "user." Dan nailed this one.
