This is why I don't carry the same knife in dress pants as in casual pants/shorts

That right there is the issue for me. I can't stand having much stuff in my pockets. I don't even carry pocket change, and keep my keys in a jacket pocket or my bookbag. I know folks who pocket carry a revolver. I could never do that!

That explains it. I totally understand, when I get home I take everything out of my pockets. But when I'm out and about I have a knife, wallet, keys, and phone in my pocket. Haven't found a way around that.

I wear jeans every day, so it's just a matter of what I feel l like carrying that morning. I try to vary daily, so none of my knives feel neglected :)

Here's my solution....

Cell phone goes in a horizontal carry holster on left front side of my belt. Horizontal carry doesn't interfere with car seat/office chair and horizontal carry doesn't interfere in seated position. Must be on left side to prevent it falling off every time I undo my belt.

Wallet was replaced years ago on advice from my chiropractor. My low back rejoices. Money clip with drivers license, debit card and cash rides in my LFP. All other cards moved to a PDA case that carries my PDA and glasses. It's almost always near at hand.

Keys have a small clip on the ring and attach to the belt loop on the right front when I need to walk with them. Never go in my pocket if I can help it.

At this point, I generally carry 2 cutting tools. A Leatherman Micra rides in the LFP and EDC knife of the day in my RFP. The Micra like my Schrade 5OT has a flat, thin profile. For me, the flat thin profile is the secret for discrete comfortable carry. The 5OT is much less noticeable in the pocket than the smallest 2 blade slip joint, at least for me. This includes time when wearing wool dress slacks.

Been carrying my wallet in my front pocket since junior high. Back pocket just isn't as comfortable. Knife, wallet, and chapstick in one pocket; keys in the other. Cell phone stays in my briefcase or on my desk. I really don't like them and think of them as a technological tether. As a matter of fact, I've left my cell phones on vibrate for seven years now. :D I've never had a problem carrying these things and I'm a slacks and khakis white collar type.

I agree with you, Doug; but to me, a Colonial Barlow is small. I guess maybe it's because I have big hands, but a 3.5" pocket knife is about the smallest I'll carry, and that's what I'll pick if I have to dress up.
A Queen Mountain Man, on the other hand, is large enough for me to use comfortably, and is about the size I'll carry if I'm at work or wearing jeans.

I hear/see so many people saying that trappers and other knives in the 4" ballpark are way too large to carry comfortably, and it makes me wonder if somehow they're all buying pants with tiny pockets...

I've found that a single blade knife (like the Mountain Man) carries easier than any multi-blade knife in the same size range. The lay flatter in the pocket.

I'd rather carry my Buck 500 than my Ulster Camper.

I carry a small Case CV soddy in a pouch on my belt with a Pal cigar pen and a Case mini copperhead with the wharncliffe master in my watch pocket. If i'm going to town I usually drop the soddy.

Robin

For the most part I find the size of the knife a non-issue. As long as the knife is sub-4", I have no trouble carrying it. Maybe it's because I carry much bigger things in my pockets.

Thats begging to fall out when you pull the wallet out. Dont want to break that nice stag.

Maybe, but I carry it fold up. Besides, knives get dropped. I don't like it when that happens, but sometimes it just does. I take care of my knives, but they pick up scratches and dings along the way. Nothing wrong with that. If I had wanted to keep this knife pristine I would have just kept it in the tube.

I do vary my carry based on dress. In shorts or jeans I'll carry a slightly larger knife like an Old Timer 8OT or trapper. For smaller pockets or lighter carry I'll carry a 34OT, a Kutmaster equal-end jack, or a 60's Case regular jack. These cross over into dress pants sometimes, but for the most part in slacks I'll carry a 104OT (Old Timer pen knife).

I'm the same way. Smallest I go is 3.5", and that's only rarely. I do carry a peanut from time to time in my scrub pants, but that's a weight issue- I need a blade, but anything heavier drags the pants down. My ideal size is 3.75-4.625.

I like to EDC larger knives - GEC Toothpicks & Powderhorns. I also carry a small SAK for the scissors and toothpick. No such thing as too much knife IMO. I don't like it when these larger knives get lodged sideways in the bottom my front pocket ... makes an unsightly bulge :D and makes it difficult to retireve the knife. Here's an EDC sheath that works well for me ... front or back pocket. It's much thinner than it appears in these pictures. This keeps the knife upright in my pocket and protects the covers from accidental contact with junk. Made for me by another forum member (rayban). I tend to carry a Case Jack or small toothpick for church.

Wow, the peanut to the pen is almost a no brainer to me if the smaller handle works for you. That's quite a lot more handle length for negligible blade length differences. A peanut is too small for me though.

Christian, I have carried my wallet front pocket since I was a kid. Sitting on a wallet makes me lopsided :-p

I like the idea of how you keep the 73 in the wallet. Keeps it upright. I just toss my knife in and wallet on top. Sometimes lighters and such get in there too. Oh, and yeah, knives get dropped. Already dropped my two day old 76. Luckily on carpet...

Kevin.

I also wear jean every day so it doesn't vary.

Doug, I suggest not wearing pants any more. Take Jeff Bridges approach in The Big Lebowski, just wear a bathrobe all the time. Plenty of pocket room and comfy.

The Dude abides.

Me too. I used to do pouch carry 'cause I don't like a lot in my pockets till that got to be a pain too,

Now it's back pocket carry in baggy work pants at work and watch pocket carry of a much smaller knife when home. I empty my pockets in to my tool box at work and only have the knife in my pockets.

I hate how everyone wants to give you a key fob, key fob discount cards, key fob chips to get in to work, key fob bar codes to get in to the gym, key fob car door openers. I used to carry three keys on my keychain and bought the smallest keyring that would work. Now I have an unwieldy "woman's" key ring no matter how I've tried to minimize it.

My office knife is a Case SBJ CV. Bigger grip than the Peanut but still fits in the pocket well. I do love my Peanut though. Something about a tiny knfe that can basically do everything that I need.
