This knife just feels better

Mine was my first leather handled Ka-Bar Marine Corps knife. Then I held my first SOG Stingray in metal and rubber handle, then an odd duck I felt the rubber was super comfortable fixed blade knife called the Wraith, a Seki made survival knife in AUS8, not the fantasy dagger.

I think the ZT0392 was my first "high end" knife and up to now still stands as a baseline measure in my collection for perfect ergos.

The Koenig Mini Goblin came much later but stands as my baseline measure for perfect out-of-the-box action. Absolutely superb.

Growing up I really didn't have anything all that great. Pakistan, Japan, China... I mean cheap. I did have a camillus scout knife though. A buck 110 too but that think is a chonk.

I'd say 20ish years ago or so, we had a gander mountain store nearby and I decided it was finally time to buy a nice modern knife.

I recognized the Camillus name so I stuck with that and went through the options. Bought the spring assisted "Blaze". While to many knife people this isnt really all that great.... To a normal 18(ish) year old it was well beyond the normal $10 lockbacks, flea market butterfly knives and hand me down beaters.

This picture came from an online retailer as the knife didn't last that long and I don't have pictures of it from two decades ago. I snapped the blade using it incorrectly on a call with the VFD

I'd probably buy another one of these if I ever saw one for sale. Lol! It was a good, basic knife.

We have similar taste, this was my first titanium frame lock, I was amazed by the simplicity and ergonomics.
It also made me a fan of Darrel Ralph's designs. The Camillus blaze was based on this knife. It even has the same leaf spring for the assist.

Mine was when I picked up a KaBar 1217 USMC Fighting Knife in a flea market. That spark ignited something that I haven't been able to put out. So then I had to have the Case 334 version and then the OKC 498 version. Then I noticed KaBar had a US Army version and a US Navy version. Oh, and then the Dog's Head. . .

In fixed blades, it was the Spyderco Moran and FB04 Perrin, I absolutely loved the feel in hand with both. Sold them both a long time ago, and should get another Moran and see what I think now- I have a later black blade Spyderhole Perrin and don't feel the same magic. Camillus BK-9 was also just great after slab- side Busses, wish I still had it. Honorable mention to the Busse Basic 9 and early rubber- handle Swamp Rats, and any Himalayan Imports khuk with a handle long enough for me.

In folders, the Spyderco Delica and PM2 are lifelong favorites from way back.
