I am currently working on a VTG Woodings Hatchet (I believe). This label is on the haft. Does anybody know anything about it?

The label says:

MARION TOOL CORP.
ALLOY
CRAFCOITE
TOOLS
MARION IND. U.S.A.

("Alloy Tools" is in a smaller font.)

What is Crafcoite?
Evidently it is "chrome nickel alloy, cast to shape, not forged".

(from the hatchet in the right column, middle):

There were enough clues in the partial label to do a successful search.
Search terms:

"tool corp." "alloy tools" ind.

The full label was on the first page of results.

Thanks, Steve. That's incredible. Would a "cast to shape" be considered inferior to "forged?"

I think it depends on the steel composition. Keesteel racing axes (from Australia) were cast. On the other hand, the forged hatchets in the above advertisement are priced twice as much as the Crafcoite (cast) hatchets, and four times as much as the case hardened cast hatchets.
