this looks like a good idea.

This seems like a good idea for heat treating without having to fire up the forge. It is definitely less labor intensive than making a one brick forge. This idea I will definitely keep in the back of my mind.

Can't view the link here at work. What is it?

I built a heat treat oven loosely based on the british blades web site. Works very well. And for ~$300-400 total cost vs. $1200 for a new oven. Of course, I'd still love to have a Paragon or EvenHeat.

itried a similar setup it was hard to bring the entire blade up to temp at the same time let alone tring to keep it there. its easy to disturb the process. it took forever. just my* $.02 even if they did think it was "bl**dy genius" ..... willy

silver pilate: It's a basic heat treat setup made from three fire-bricks.

blue dragon: Have thought about that, but all I need at the moment is quick and easy setup for heat treating. I'm afraid that if I make a forge I might be tempted to begin forgeing knives. Don't have the money for that right now:grumpy:, and I don't have teh selfcontrol to avoid it if I have a forge standing around:D
