This must be where the DEKs hang out, eh?

I'm up for adoption you know
You don’t get it. I have 3 kids and the only way my wife lets me buy myself a knife or gun is if I buy the kids one also.

So any items I buy it costs me 4x that price!

So for every knife I get, I buy 3 more (can be slightly different, color etc.).

Every gun I get, 3 more similar.

Please nobody tell her that this isn’t really punishment for me😂

My pre-order came in and the wait was WELL worth it. Two fantastic knives and I did not expect to like the DEK2 as much as I do, what a cool feeling and cool looking knife, it begged for a swedge and penetrator tip, the acid wash was a last minute change that I’m glad I went with. The DEK3 in MC is just unreal, I didn’t believe there was even a knife in the packaging, totally not the norm for a Carothers knife to be this light. The top swedge isn’t sharpened, just a beautiful hollow satin finish with cocobolo scales for options on this one.

Both of these are getting some Pirtle Made cpirtle cpirtle leather and will be fun to carry. I’ll have to get pics with my older DEK1 in Osage and satin finish, AEBL on that knife so I have a little bit of everything in the DEK lineup. These knives came with the scales reversed but after some looking at them, I think the Osage goes with the DEK2 the best!

Excellent work and thank you so much @Nathan the Machinist @Jo the Machinist @CPK Mark, and also @Lorien!

Those both came out amazing....I have a pretty good selection of CPKs but I've never ordered mine very dressed up. I need to elevate my tastes!

The regular sales are so brisk and hard to get in that if I get the opportunity at adding extra options with a pre-order, I’m absolutely getting something you can’t purchase in a regular sale. I’m sure CPK hates orders like this but I have to say that it really shows the range of the CPK crew to not only make a basic version knife meant to take an all week beating but to be able to also take that same knife to a level a lot of custom makers aren‘t able to achieve.

How many DEK3 are out in hands? Can't wait to see mine
I'm not sure how many, but have seen pictures of several. I got lucky on the first Friday sale and snagged one. I think you'll love it. Mine gets lots of kitchen/food prep use and I think it'll get a lot of carry time and a lot more use come fall. This is one of only a couple models I really wish I had ordered a few on the preorder ... handles like a dream.

Those turned out really slick. I agree that taking advantage of nicer options on pre-orders is an opportunity not to be missed. I am sure that cpirtle cpirtle will do you right with some amazing leather for those. Enjoy those special DEK’s ! 😎

Thank you Phil! I originally pre-ordered the DEK2 with a brown Pirtle sheath but after seeing it in hand and switching the scales, I went to Chad’s site and purchased a black one for it, the DEK3 is gonna have one made in his reddish Oxblood color which should pair nicely with the fancy pants cocobolo!

Good color choices on the sheaths Jacob. The black will look striking with the Osage / Acid Etch combo. Oxblood will highlight the richness of the Cocobolo. 😎

I wasn’t feeling the pale color on these scales like I thought I would, so took my first stab at Rit dye to darken them up. So far seems pretty colorfast but I imagine they will fade some with age.

I think that looks excellent since you can still see that layered pattern. It will be interesting to see how the dye holds up to carry, use and cleaning. Have you done this before to similar micarta scales?

If you apply a layer of polymerized linseed oil, it will help seal in the color. Mind you, I'm not talking about boiled linseed oil, which has toxic metallic drying agents in it. Polymerized linseed oil is food safe.
