This old KaBar fish knife just jumped in my boat

I'll try this here and if it don't get me my answer I'll start a thread of my own but I figure it's about an identical knife and this looked like a good place to ask.

My buddy just came back from CO and brought me back a gift for watchin' his house and checkin' up on his kid.

Anyway he brought me back the same Ka-Bar minus the Kabar T75 in the celluloid, my question is, I noticed a small hole in the one side of the rear bolster at first glance it looked like the knife might have had a bail, then I noticed that there was no corresponding hole on the opposite side.

Then I thought maybe a pin came out but that doesn't seem to be the case, now I'm no fisherman and I don't collect this pattern so it's only an educated guess on my part, I'm thinkin' the small hole's for straightin' the tip of the hook if it had gotten bent.

Can anybody comfim my suspicion as to the purpose of this little hole, you can see it on the pics in the OPs first post in this thread.

BTW, I'll post pics later, this knife looks unused and is in great shape with great celluloid and great walk and talk.

i think i've read something about this...

i think the whole was to adjust fishing hooks
so i bet if you tried, a fishing hook tip would just about fit in that hole

not much of a fisherman myself either, but like i said that would be my guess

It is for straightening hooks. I didn't know what it was either when I first got the knife since like Ted I don't collect the pattern or fish myself.

Thanks for confirmin' my suspicions.

It is a well made knife with really nice celluloid scales, I wish I fished, or at least if it wasn't a gift, I could trade or sell it.

I'm gonna hafta start collectin these now, (great, now I got another thing to buy I can't afford. :))

Love fish knives. Wonder if you could put a degorger back on the scaler?

This one is a Queen that I picked up a few years ago. I still haven't seen another one.
