I got it today and after fondling it for a while, it's going in the safe. I may have some scrimshaw work done on it before that though, I think it needs something. Bolsters were engraved by Custom Jeweler/Engraver & miniature custom knife and firearm maker, Jim Whitehead. It has natural inlays and feels really good.

Dave I have the perfect safe for it.:D:D But all kidding aside THAT is one gorgeous knife. HL

It's beautiful. It looks like antique ivory, is it?

I wonder? Wow is that a knice nife. If you had to pick only one knife in the world to own, this one must certainly rise to or near the top of the list.

That is beautiful Dave. The photo's of that on ebay were so crappy I thought the engraving was bad....LOL

Thanks jb. This one isn't the one in the pictures. It's a second one that he had.

 That knife is too beautiful for words! If it has that 'special' feel to the handle, you just described ivory. Great catch, Dave.

Nice Dave. Looks like you decided to spring for some engraving after all!

Jim Whitehead does amazing work. Have you seen the picture of his 110 miniature? Amazing. It is about the size of a dime.

Yeah, I just couldn't pass this one up. I did an internet search for Mr. Whitehead and came up empty. I'd love to see his work, so if you can, send me a link. I would appreciiate it.

Plumberdv,

Years ago I visited the local art museum to see President Abraham Lincoln's hat (drove, parked, lined-up and paid to get in).

I would do the same to see this one knife. Rich and regal. Clean and strong. You have a show now you just need to take it on the road. Please post show dates on the forum. :D

That's some fine engraving and a pleasure to see after some of the recent threads featuring some of the cheaper Yellowhorse mass market knives.

Scrimshaw is a great idea........but what?

Maybe we need a special thread to make suggestions as to what scrimshaw would best enhance this knife?

:)

Scrimshaw is a very individual topic as to subject matter. I prefer large cats, birds of prey and things like that.

There are some excellent publications that show lots of engraving, scrimshaw, etc., but it is typically on custom knives.

The "Knives" annual soft cover book is good, one titled "500 Knives" is inexpensive and also very good.

If your preference is strictly Buck knives, you don't see much, as the artwork typically would far exceed the value of the knife.
