This place is an outlet for me. No one else cares

weeewhooo. good knife day. Got my BM5000 back from repair. Too bad no one cares. lol. Sweet, they didn't sharpen it either. I asked them not to. Took me a few hours to get that edge where I wanted it.

I'm lucky in that i grew up with 5 uncles and 12 cousins, all boys except one. Everyone like knifes, and most of them edc something decent. They don't care enough to spent 100+ dollar on a g-10 whatever, or go online to talk about it tho.

Jack,
There might be some serious issues here.
The "no one cares" syndrome.
Did you ever consider seeing a professional.

well I met a few knife makers and a guy who used to teach knife fighting in the army.... oh wait, you ment the other kind. Who can afford to throw money away on shrinks when there's so many knives in the world?

Yup, the other kind.
I'm glad you are beginning to realize your "no one cares" syndrome.
That is a good start.
There is help out there.
Good Luck to you, and your family will also benefit greatly by your getting assistance.

Another incedent that occured quite recently; an old highschool friend stopped by, and I was showing her some of my kitchen knives. Normally, I wouldn't bother, but she is the daughter of a local, well respected restauranteur, and has worked in that restaurant since she was a child. When I handed her a Global, I may as well have handed her a masonary trowel. She picks it up and hefts it, "pretty light," she says(good reaction so far), then proceeds to bounce the tip on the counter as though she's performing some test. She then turned to the cutting board and cut some imaginary vegetables. WTF! What would she have done if I handed her a hammer, start pounding imaginary nails into the wall?

Sorry for the rant, but I've been wanting to gripe about this for a while, and it makes me feel better that I'm not alone.

I don't know about bouncing the tip on the counter () but the "phantom cut" is a pretty routine occurence in the restaurant industry for those who actually buy their own knives. It gives you a small idea of the ergonomics of the knife, how the edge interacts with the board during chopping, and a general feeling for it.

Personally I cut imaginary fruit, it's faster. :D

In regards to the original topic. Most everyone I know cares about my knives. I'm not sure why but whenever I get a new knife people at work constantly swipe it from my pocket, open + (try to)close it a few times, ask what the steel is, ask what the handle is made of, and then tell me they either like it better than the last one or didn't like it. It's kind of fun, "that's pretty cool!" is probably the most routine comment I hear about my knives. Although it doesn't happen as much anymore we used to have a pretty routine discussion on steel, handle material, sharpening techniques, brand names and so forth.

A large part of this acceptance may be due to the fact that I work in a super-knife friendly environment where 3/4 of the staff carries a Spyderco knife I gifted to them and they love it. (It's not too impressive, I only work with 8 other people.)

Enough about me though; maybe no one seems to care about your knives because you present it in a very uninteresting way?

People will not care and will not listen unless you interest them in some way, make it funny or make it applicable, the trick is finding out what works. I recently spent an hour or two explaining to my girlfriend the differences and improvements the Leathermen brand multi-tools have gone through since their inception. She wanted me to do this because the boys at work use them and she wanted to have something to talk about with them while on a smoke break.

However some people just cannot be made to care at all. My father has carried and used the same Schrade fruit tester knife for almost 40 years and will not hear anything about new steels, new locks, or new handle materials. He is set in his ways and just does not see the point in G10 or S30V, some people are like this, it's nothing to worry about. Find some people who are actually interesting in you and I bet they'll be interested in your knives too.

tirod3, did you score yourself a Kit Carson model 4? Is that the expensive knife that you are carrying?

Sorry, out of the loop with a worm infested firewall. The virus checker never saw it.

Gen 6 RG SnG drop point. Which looks a lot like the previous Tarani SBT Buck.

No comparison, which is a different subject.

In the past I've carried BM CQC7's, CRKT's, Spydercos, Bucks, and others. I just kept upgrading until I found a knife with all the features I wanted for a heavy duty EDC. Funny where that can lead, and it's been all good for me - except it's a lonely journey, and I have gotten more heat from the sheeple about my cheap knives than this one has attracted altogether.
