This place is littered with friggin Aussies

I've dealt with a few of the posters in this thread, and many others in most parts of the world and the only mail service i have had problems with is Royal Mail and Parcelforce (UK). I'm very happy with the service i've recieved from USPS.
I always ask for USPS Global Priority (flat rate envelope if the item fits it) because i've found both tracking and delivery time to be better than Global Express. This is due to the swedish customs, who tend to ignore GPM.

The Question: Do you know how they call Aussies in England?

The Answer: Oz-holes

I just want to declarte that I have many good Australian friends and it's just a joke, not to create any bad feelings and such. Just to show you I mean no harm, I'll tell you another joke about Canadians.

What's Canada, Dad,

It's the 51st State, son.

Speaking from someone from the 51 state (Canada) I have been completely surprised by the amount of people that won't ship outside of the 48 states including Alaska and Hawaii. There is absolutely no risk shipping to Canada as I can get a US money order to a customer in less than a week, your US parcel tracking and insurance works and there are less restrictions on fixed blade knives at customs (folders can be a problem).

Thanks to all of you who attest of the ease which this can be done. Like Austrailia we have few large companies producing knives within the country (probably only Grohman) and depend on products originating in the US and Japan. If only we could convince Busse Combat to set up a factory here I am sure that many would chip in for a nice piece of non-swamp land (and
Canadian beer is much better).....

Thanks Damn the Man for the info. I also will ship to anywhere on the plant. When a man needs the best (Busse) he should be able to get it.

Are those the mostly grey cardboard envelopes? If so be careful, I've had a couple of those pretty much disintegrate in transit including one where an empty envelope was delivered. Fortunately it didn't have much in it to start with and the post office covered the value. They're obviously not designed to spend a week or more being moved around.

Any time that someone won't send stuff direct to Australia I get them to ship it to a friend of mine in Michigan to forward it to me. USPS in a sturdy box seems to work well, and I've never had a parcel go missing.

Until about a month ago I was putting "CONUS only" on my sale posts, simply because I had read that people had terrible experiences shipping outside the 48 States. I don't think I ever saw an actual account of one of those terrible experiences, just how it could be trouble. A lot of people are probably in the same boat and shouldn't be, but they don't know any better.

After a certain fellow got me straightened out about the whole "CONUS only" thing and how it really isn't that big of a deal to ship outside the US, I shipped a knife to Australia and found out how painless it really is. I have no qualms about shipping anywhere now. Although I'm sure problems could arise, they usually don't.

This is a good thread, Damn. (May I call you Damn? :D )

I've been shipping worldwide for a few years now. I've had one package go missing to Japan, but it went missing before leaving CONUS. I've had more packages go missing to Arkansas than outside the US.

My only real concern is insurance so that's an issue for discussion before shipping. It's always been resolved.

A customs dec takes less time than an insurance form. It's just a fact of life in doing business, same as delivery confirmation.

The only countries I won't ship to are Nigeria, Singapore or Indonesia. The reasons are obvious to anyone who has received the form letter saying someone wants to buy my inventory and will I take a credit card. Those hit the trash pretty fast.

It comes down to personal preference, I haven't found a reason not to ship abroad.

yeah your cutting out on many prospective buyers by only shipping conus keep sending the steel to down under

Just to chime in..a big thanks to those that ship downunder. However, my favourite place to shop in the states is the BCS :) ...

I count 8 Aussies in this thread alone! (Oh and one Kiwi :)) Is that really "crawling"? The wife tells me I have to get down under one of these days. She went a few years back to see her sister, who was studying marine bio down there. Anything over a few hours on a plane is pushing it for me though. Oh, and where the heck is Ian anyway? Did the rats get him?

Big thumbs up to Damn the Man & the rest off you guys that ship O/S.
I hope this thread will encourage more people to to at least consider the option.
I've been visiting these forums for a few years now,& just recieved my first
Busse a couple of weeks ago.A Desert Sage Fat FBM,from a fellow Aussie
member(many thanks Matt).I'm afraid I'm well and truely hooked now!And will
definitley be trying for more as funds permit.
Anyway its good to see more Aussie's bringing Busse's into Oz,keep it up
guys. And again thanks to those that put in the extra effort to ship O/S it is
much appreciated:thumbup:

Not entirely. ;):D

I’ve had many sent down over the years and never had one go missing either, our customs guys are good to us as well, so long as we don’t try importing something illegal. :D

Ah, I knew you were lurking in the bushes somewhere. :)

Hello everyone,my 1st post :)
I've been lurking around for a while now...drooling mostly( over some of the nicest knives I've ever seen) and also thinking I would never be lucky enough to buy a busse. Thanks Damn the Man for starting this thread and to all the guys who will ship overseas :)

WOOHOO maybe just one day I will have in my hands a sage FFBM

Inspired by all those who said they'd ship OS in this thread I ventured back into the for sale forum for the first time in months hoping to find something I'm interested in and pick up my first Busse. Actually found something I'd buy that wasn't already gone, acceptable price, "won't ship overseas". :(

Big thanks to all those that will but looks like the only way I'm getting something is to wait for a design I like to come into production.

apsilon, you could always have someone who is willing to ship it purchase it by proxy for you. I know many folks who do that as well.

Thanks for posting this. These are a few of the items that have made their way down here from the States. Honourable mentions to Damn the Man, Busse Collector, Progunner and others.

For what it is worth I will put a few thoughts here on this issue.
At first I did not understand why people would say "Conus only" but now I have realised some different things.
One of these is that a seller may be prepared to ship to several countries but not several others. To post these inclusions and exclusions in a sales thread can appear to be discriminatory and may cause offence. Unfortunately there are several countries I would rather not ship to but I would not like to single them out with mention. (or by omission, do the same).

Shipping to Australia is probably most safely done by using the USPS Global Express system. This is trackable and insurance can be increased as is necessary.
Without going into to many details (and I read a lot about people preferring not to lie on Customs forms); As charges do not come in under about $800USD, it is unlikely you would be asked to do this.
With all shipping, and especially if people want to use a cheaper shipping option, eg. the very reasonable pre-paid Global envelopes, I would make sure that they fully understand that all responsibility is theirs. This is the only fair option and is what I put to Ebay buyers. Once I post, I can't be responsible. If they want insurance, tracking etc, then it is their responsibility to ask and to pay for it.
The USPS website is quite good and has very useful calculators for all services.

Finally and briefly, Australian Customs. For a start, (and assuming someone asked you to send an illegal import), unless it is a major smuggling operation, they are not interested in the origin of the item: only the person recieving it.
Most items, by far and away, are okay.Especially in the Busse, SRKW, SY line.
Some items which are not available to the general public, are available under two different "permission to import" and "collector exemption" schemes.
Many Australian buyers, including myself, hold these exemptions.

Once again, I would state clearly that all responsiblity for import is on the buyer. I for one, am always quite glad to accept this.

I know the system quite well, having imported knives, and other items for many years now. If anyone would like any further information they can feel free to email me.

Dang bblake. The two I sent you don't even make the picture?

I've done that in the past with other things via a friend in Colorado but I don't like to put him out too much having to repack things and take them to the post office so I reserve it only for big stuff and to be honest if they're not interested in my cash then I'd rather then not end up with it. I don't need any more knives so the enforced saving doesn't hurt, just annoys.
