This place is more addictive than crack...

Arggh, I found this place around two or three weeks ago, and at the time I had a Cold Steel medium Voyager, a Gerber EZ-Out (worst blade steel I've ever known), and a CRKT KISS, and no particular desire to buy a new knife. Since then, I've bought a CRKT Mirage Gray Ghost, a Benchmade Ascent (not bad, but kinda flimsy), a Benchmade Stryker (used from these forums), a DF Jaguar balisong, and I am contemplating purchasing a used EDi or a MT Mini Socom. It's too bad it's killing my wallet. How many of you guys were sucked in like me?

We come to BladeForums with an interest in knives, and end up with an addiction, and we turn to people for help that are a lot sicker than we are. We come here thinking knives are cool, and end up believing that everything we’ve ever done before coming here was waste of time. We start by asking questions like, “What’s the best knife I can buy for $100 or less?” and end up trying to trade our first born for a Sebenza. When you care more about. “Which is better Tip Up or Tip Down carry?” then who is the next President. When your Playboy goes unread but the pages of your Blade magazine are stuck together. When your next knife purchase is more important than your wedding vows. When your child cuts themselves and you check the knife first. When your signature reads, “Will work 4 Knives!” and you mean it, you know you're hooked.

(Yes, I'm recycling old posts, but it's not old if you never heard it before)

Uh...how do you know this place is more addictive than crack?

If you don't really know, may I humbly suggest that you not try it since you have demonstrated your compulsive tendencies.

Either one can break you financially, but should you become addicted to both...god help you.

Jeez, just the the thought of a knifehead on crack is frightening.

And if you think you're in trouble, consider this; you're just starting, some of us have been here for years.

I know because I....I...hmmm. Ok, I'm guessing, but I'll say this: I'm glad my habit does not include consuming the product to which I am addicted. THAT gets expensive. Oh wait - I like to drive, too. That consumes gas. Ah well. At least I can say that, barring anasthesia, I, during waking hours, always have 100% of my facilities.

Is kinda cool, wait till you get your first flame though, it does take the 'new' and 'nice' feeling away. Just like my LCC D/A when the Ti bolsters got marked

I came here about a year ago thinking, Hmmm what nice place to get information on a knife, I was thinking about purchasing. (MT Vector). A few hours later, I bought the Vector, a SOCOM, a Mini SOCOM, and I can't remember what else. Yes this is an addiction. I can't keep away now. Good luck.

Oh, I've already chimed in on the MT religious pamphlet debate (and please do NOT take this as an invitation to start it back up anyone - they locked that thread for a reason), so I have already been in the thick of things.

Babtised in fire then

Sorry for the religious pun! Could not resist it

Was a knifeknut before I came here, but a reasonably sensible one. Have more than doubled my # of knives since getting here -- too damn many on credit cards too

-- much better to buy them off the forum, generally speaking. Then again, at least 6-8 of those I've purchased since joining, were to take advantage of the closeouts at SMKW. And Bayou LaFourche. All of those were a maximum of $13 apiece, most were $10. What other hobby/pursuit lets you buy a LASTING bit of heaven for $10?

I've learned more about knives than I knew before joining. I've gained a sense of belonging. I've laughed a lot, made a couple dumb moves, and been properly excoriated for them.

Since I don't work, I doubt many spend much more time here than I do. Yep, think addictive is exactly the right word! Am having so much fun!!

Welcome to our madness. A word of advice, stay away from the Himalayan Imports threads. HIKV is terminal.

Yes, it is. These are the best and most honest people a person can hope to associate with. I don't know what I'd do if we lost this place!

Professor.
