Not quite sure what the power plant will be, but wont be the original 7.5 hp. Maybe a diesel from an old tractor would be nice :)

It will be fully restored before I use it. Mainly because it will have to be taken apart to move it up the hill to the barn.

I finally got my hammer :D

p.s That's Wayne Surbier (insanity) on the truck

Is that a helve hammer? It looks too tall to be, but I can't figure where the anvil is...

Good score! May it give you years of trouble-free steel smashing!

Well there goes the neighborhood.
I think I'll go into the eyeplug business.

That looks like a great project Mark.
It looks like it might take a dozer to get it up the hill.

Keep us posted on the progress on your new toy

Take Care

I knew that your shoulders were bothering you (or something was!) and I guess that monster will clear up that problem---Good luck! Best to Deb, and Wayne if he is still around! ---Sandy---

Deker, that's the Bradley "upright" helve. Anvil is forward on the trailer, slides under hammer head.

Nice, Mark! Congrats!

mark let me know about part and info i can find the number for the person who i guess "owns" bradley right now. he has old manuals and diagrams and stuff

Way to go. That should help with your delicate work. Hope it is up and running when I get there this spring.

Hey Bro, thought you weren't interested in doing miniatures!
Looks like a fun project. Be sure to do a digit inventory before you fire that mother up.

Can you get an auxillary hydraulic drive and run it like a PTO from your tractor?

Man,you screwed up big now Mark. With a real hammer you won't have any excuses for why your knives are so ugly. Next thing you know you will start payin' Taxes and quit the moonshinin'.

Great hammer, fella, Hope it takes some of the load off your poor ol' back. Say Hi to Deb for me. Be Well,Work Safe.

"There will be earthquakes in diverse places".

My guess would be about a 4.2 on the Richter Scale. Glad you are not closer to the coast...... you could set off a tidal wave with that thing.:D

Hey Guys,

I figure with a good rope, all the guys that have responded to this thread could just help me drag it up the hill. :D

Cant wait to get this thing going. I will need to get a set of dies for it. As wide as the dies could be, a combo flat/convex would probably be all it would need.

Charles , Feel free to come by some time. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll send my info.

Hopefully by Spring it will be ready to smash some steel.

Hey...What are the measurements of the dies. I got this mill and that might be a good winter project.

What a great find. Don't let that puppy get loose on the way up the hill.

Reading all the threads posted here, about finding these old hammers and the desire to restore them; I believe todays knife forgers are making this, period in time, the renaissance of old power hammers. It is wonderfull to see. The heartache of seeing a fine old workhorse like this rusting in a scrapyard is not a pretty thought.

I.G The last patent date was 1919.

Larry , I'll see what I can find out on die measurements.

Stacy , Ugly is my motto :)

Carl and Sandy. Come see us !! I guess I could use the tractor. It's so loud it might drown out some noise.

Michael. I would appreciate any info you can find

I'm working on a methond for getting your hammer up the hill. I've drug out the physics book and if we reverse the gravational field for a few seconds, I figure it will slide up the hill to you shop. The trick seems being able to just move the hammer and not have your house up the hill with the hammer.
