This Spurious Rumor, Again

oh the irony!:D
"evolute" has damn near an opposable big toe.

I think we all have feet capable of competently manipulating objects. It's not just a matter of having long toes. My friend's daughter has been picking up toys with her feet since she was two, and she has tiny little baby toes. Perhaps you all have just never tried to develop your natural abilities to grasp objects with your feet... though I'm not sure why not.

Pretty impressive, but I was thinking more along the lines of actually being dexterious enough to grip and use things....touch type and so on....would be bad ass to have the equivalent to 4 hands.

Just wait in a few million years ... :D

In a few million years....assuming there's still people around, we'll probably either have the technology where we pretty much have machines and computers to do virtually everything for us or we'll be in some waterworld shit.

I don't care about them though....I want to scratch my ass with my foot NOW!!! :P

Note to self:

If Evolute ever challenges me to a knife fight with hands tied behind our backs, decline.

 :D

I remember seeing an article in a science mag that when humans eventually start going into deeper space and perhaps people living up there that we would probably evolve or use surgery to have arms instead of legs.

You can't pick stuff up with your feet? Really? Have you tried?

Pretty much anything I can pick up with my hand, up to a certain size, I can pick as well with my foot.

I've always used my feet to pick up stuff when I'm too lazy to bend down or it's something I don't feel like touching with my precious fingers. Really, I think many people just have not realized their simian potential.

present in these two video's is the ability to type using a modern keyboard, change a baby, grocery shop, and play rhythm guitar without the use of hands or arms.

the ability to functionally perform a given task using your feet or mouth is greatly diminished when a simpler or easier method is developed (hands, tools). when that method is not available, time and practice allow you to develop the necessary skill to use other limbs and techniques to accomplish the same tasks.

monkeys can use their feet very well, but they are not hands. you don't see monkeys grooming each other with their feet for a reason, their feet are used to grasp, their hands are used to grasp and manipulate with dexterity and control.

I would imagine that artificial gravity, since no gravity wreaks havoc on the spine and bone density.

Maybe we could combine our genes with arachnids. Eight dextrous limbs would be at least twice as cool as four :)
