Sorry to hear that Bob. I've had my face swolen shut with that crap before. I know how much it sucks. Good luck brother. Get over to the Doc and get you a good shot or two to clear that stuff up.

Hey benchmadebob,

I'm sorry to hear of your predicament. I hope you get better soon.

Fortunately (up to now) I don't get it, but I avoid it as much as possible. There's evidence to suggest that immunity can change at any time and that the more you're exposed to it, even if you're presently immune, the greater the chance you will lose that immunity - a word to the wise.

damn man, what happened? you plow thru the foliage while hiking recently?

Get the steriods!

Really bad stuff. My brother and I used to get it bad from exploring creek bottoms in our neighborhood when we were kids. Rule was you could not raise your head above the high water level of the creek, so we were often wading in waist deep water.

Only treatment in those days was calamine lotion and baking soda baths. We would get it in our eyes and inside the ears. Yuck. Sounds like better treatments are available now. Get the steroids man, and good luck.

I feel your pain, I get poison oak horribly bad. Get the Aveeno oatmeal bath packs, they really helped me from wanting to peel my own skin off. Even though I've learned to be more careful, that vile weed can sneak up on you from nowhere!

I'll 4th on the steroids. :-)
I had it pretty bad (poison oak) on my face and arms about a year ago.
steroids will solve your problems quickly.

After that incident I had a picture of poison oak as my desktop wallpaper
for a year. Never forget! ;-)

thanks guys i got the roids and im put like a gallon of technu on and it burs for a whil and then the itch goes away my doctor told me to put a cup of bleach in a bath tub and its the same thing as swimming in a pool.

Have you seen the episode when bear trys to get honey and his face is all puffed up from bee stings thats what i look like :o

Man that bring back bad memories of when I was young. I would get it so bad that I couldn't see and would get great patches that would scab over and leak so that my shirt would stick to me.

Got to get the shots as soon as you can.

take care and stay away from the poison ivy,

John

Wash all your clothes you had on with warm water and detergent. Wash the oil of your shoes and shoelaces with tecnu outdoor skin cleaner. It washes off the oil from the poison ivy vine. Get a shot of cortisone it works faster than the pills.

You can indeed lose your immunity, and I may be in the process now. For years I have pulled posion ivy by bare hand from flower beds. I have had the bark and leaves slip and have gotten a hand full of sap and wiped it off on my jeans with no ill effects.

Now at age 62, however, if I do this I will get a few red bumps on my inner wrist where the blood vessels are near the surface, and they itch for a couple of days. Interestingly, there is no rash whatsoever at the points of actual skin contact. It's time to start being more careful.

I umpteenth the shot.

I got a flat out in the middle of nowhere once while mountain biking in Colorado and I had already gone through my 2 spare tubes. I saw a road a ways away and I figured I could hitch hike back to my car, but I had to cross a river to get to it. I took off my shoes to wade across the river while I carried my bike over my head.

Two days later the bottoms of my feet were covered in swollen sacks of fluid. By far the worst poison ivy/oak rash I have ever had. My socks would get soaked from the little pus sacks exploding as I walked............

Dear Lord that was miserable. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like to have it on my crotch or face.
