This sucks big time

"Leaflets three, let them be."

i used to get it like crazy when i was a kid. strangely, i don't get it any more. i think i developed immunity. my father is so allergic to it that he can't even eat cashews, which are a relative, without breaking out.

That really sucks, I have never gotten poison ivy My Dad, Brother and I are all immune. One of my friends got it pretty bad while we were hicking around about a month ago a guessI walked through a big patch of it. He tried to warn me so I backtracked through it caught back up with him and we found another way around. He ended up getting it pretty bad:( I didn't, he was pissed

Almost sounds like you burned some in a campfire? I know my dad is so allergic to it even the smoke messes him up bad. Hope you get to feeling better soon bud.

I do feel for you bud. It seems i get it atlist 4-20 times every year. I found that if i take a realy realy realy hot shower it makes the itch go away for a few hours. The reason i get it so much is cause of Geocaching. The last time i got it was less then a month ago. tried to find a way to the top of small mountain with out climbing the steep part.. All i got to show for it. I did notice that this time it wasnt nearly as bad as always. I walked right through it and even fall into the poisen oak when i slipped... I guess my body dicided to get used to it.. I wonder how long my body would stay imune to it. Next time i get into it i would know... But hot water is the best and to make it dry faster i use Calamine lotion after the shower, Hope that helps you. Besides that no one in his right mind would mess with you thinking you are a leaper or something lol. Oh and the best part is that it makes your Package look bigger now all swollen up lol

P.s he got stung by a bee though... :D

Yup, contact dermititis! Better known as poison ivy rash. We used to get it so bad from burning it in campfires when we were kids. The kid next dooor had it so bad once his head looked like a damn pumpkin. I got it that bad once myself. Only cortisone pills or shot will get rid of it when it is that bad. Unless you want to suffer miserably for weeks.

I know my dad has a pic of me somewhere. Where i got stung by so many bees that both my eyes were swollen shut for almost a week. My nose and face and my neck were swollen... In school to see what the teacher was writing i keeped one eye open with my hand. I were around 12 or 13.
Hey Bench now you know you can impress the ladies.. How about wearing a speedo on the beach lol

I hate PI--As soon as I get the first bump, I call my Doc and get the steroids. It spreads like mad on me.

Sorry to hear that, that stuff is not fun.

When I was little I could roll around in the stuff and wouldn't bother me at all. Lately it seems that I can get it by just looking at the stuff.

It is prolly to late but PI spreads because of the oil/sap stick to the skin and it spreads everytime you itch. Once you feel the first itch take a really good shower to make sure you remove any residue oil. Don't forget clothes and bedding as well. It is possible that some of your equipment has the oil on it so you might want to wash it too. I tell you this from experience, my last case was not cool at all.

Washing your shoes - and laces - and other items that may have been contaminated - is important to keep from spreading it later - after those steroids are gone. My August exposure was the 'gift that kept on giving' - despite the steroid shot and double steroid pack. I still have dried whelps around my ankles and up my legs.

The best 'relief' I found for the itch was Band-Aid brand 'Anti-Itch Gel'. The faster you get the steroids, the better they seem to work - I waited too long - even painting myself with calamine lotion, recalling my childhood. The worst news - my wooded backyard, which I 'Agent Oranged' last fall, apparently is covered in the ipoison ivy and oak. You'd think it was on steroids! Best of luck!

Ive never had poison Ivy , so I dont know your misery. Have had bad chigger infestations though. Qestion: will the steroids shot work for chigger bites?

Hey BenchmadeBob, let us learn from your mistake. How did this come to pass? Clearing brush? Walking through the woods? Just had to rub the pretty, shiny leaves against your face? What?

I remember reading about jewel weed working to help cure poison ivy but not sure who or where i read it... will try and find it before i head off to work for you... until then invest in BIG bottle of tecnu .. I swear by it as if I even look at any type of poison I start to scratch and itch..

Best of luck to you !!

PI is nasty stuff! My father in law gets it just by being in the same county with a plant. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I've had poison ivy on my crotch once. Not fun. Made a mental note to myself not to roll around in the woods with my pants off anymore. :D
