This used to be a Sebenza

Barry, you magnificent bastard! That is just crazy enough to work!

That's the nicest thing anyone said to me all week. James, I'm blushing.

What does that modified-wharnie blade look like folded? Nice work!

Professor.

Here's another view of the knife folded:

I forgot to mention, that the flame job on the handles belong to Kyle Eichenseer. :D

Barry, I'm really interested in the handle, now.

Would you mind telling me (or us  ) a little about how you did it ?

I think it shows exceptional talent. I would love to do something with my own plain Sebenza as she's a beater anyway :D I would even like to know a little about drilling out too, if you have any experience therein.

Thankyou

Mark :)

Thanks for the kind words, Mark. Yes, I've done holes in handles before, as well as replacing the non locking side with solid carbon fiber.

I've gotten my inspiration for doing the texturing primarily from Jens Anso.
I use a 1/2" oscillating spindle sander. I use coarse sleeves. I go thru at least 1 sleeve per side, usually two. It's very time consuming as well. Depending on the final finish, I'll either blast it with 120 grit for a heat anodized finsih, like mine, or I might opt to finish it with ceramic media, very much like an Obenauf or Carson finish.

Thanks, Barry.

It's a lot of time consuming work, but the results are always there to see. There is a metal fabrication business locally and i'm going to get them to drill mine. I'll also get the edges sanded for a rounder look. I will be able to polish her myself hopefully, if not they can complete everything.

Can't see me doing anything with the blade just yet but I would still love to try a Sebenza with a full wharncliff blade something like Mike Snody's designs - I find that style to be very useful for my kind of uses. Maybe later on.

These modifications seem to give a lot of character to the knives, for sure.

Mark :)

Cool, but I wonder--the blade is different and the handle has been heavily modified.
This is the axe my grandfather made.
My father replaced the handle,
and I replaced the blade.

So, do you have similar opinions on what Tom Mayo has done to Sebenzas, or Matt Cucchiara?

The Sebenza isn't exacly a one-of-a-kind custom. It does, however, lend itself to some some different mods as evidenced by Mayo, Cucchiara and others, including myself.

I say to each his own. If you like it stock, fine. If you want to mod it, fine.

Bro that knife is truely SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would give it a hug if I could. LOL :D ;)

A nice statement (I think) on how the value of self-expression and caring through an object can transcend the value of the object itself....

at least that's my humble interpretation.

Oh and btw, that is a great looking mod job on the "Seb".

Wharnie blades make me wharnie ;) :p :)...I'm not sure what that means.

Thanks. As long as we keep working on them, they never die! :)

I like that Rock Lobster Sebenza myself.

Personally think it a freaking awesome looking knife. I like the blade style and what looks to be not only an attractive handle work but functional as well. For me, its been one of the better folders I've seen posted.

>>Unfortunately it only serves to remind me that there is little chance of my ever seeing a wharnnie Mnandi.

Why is the Reeve Co so resistant to the idea of expanding the line with different blade shapes? I think that they make a small number of Tanto Sebs..

Shame really..

Killer Mod!
