you can blame it all on a conversation over lunch between Elliot, Gus, and the Gigster...I was so quiet absorbing up information that they began to wonder if I was getting sick...:D

anyway two recent aquisitions...

Amhurst cutlery swayback straight carver in sambar stag..

and a Amhurst Equal end Pen Knife in some really unique Mammoth Ivory..

They certainly are addictive. Those are two nice ones you have there. The swayback is very nice but I love the equal end. The finish on the blades and obviously the mammoth ivory is fantastic. Nice pick ups.

Nice knives. You certainly seem to be jumping in the deep end with both feet.

You're on a good start, Ren.

The only problem with slipjoints. . . .is what I call the Spatial Theory.

1. They don't take up as much space as fixed blades or folders. As such, you have to purchase more to fill the holes in the display case.

2. It's pretty darn hard to collect only one pattern. You have to purchase more to make sure you've covered most, if not all, the patterns.

3. There are quite of few slipjoint makers. That's right. . . .you have to purchase more to make sure you've covered most, if not all, your favorite makers.

4. You just can't carry one. Since they're small and ride inconspicuously in the pocket. . . . .you got it. . . .you have to carry more, which equates to purchasing more.

:D

ren, welcome to the dark side:cool:

slipjoint pirates rule, locks are for sissies:D

He beat me to it Ren, it seems odd seein' yer moniker here, I had to make sure I wasn't in W&C.

What I love about the slipjoints are the variations and the quality on the older 1900-1950s and ya can still find a gorgeous well made knife for under $100.

One other thing about this place, it's like a Bizzaro Wine & Cheese, :D everyone's nice, very little trollin' and ya get to see the nicer side of some of the folk who ya butt heads with in other places. ;)

Oh yeah and the knives are outstandin'.

Wow man those are nice. I'm not sure which one I like the best.

Nice ones Ren, welcome to the folksy world. Amherst does a good job, have a couple of theirs. I hope they end up making our forum knife if Pappy can get away with the price needed.:)

The title of this thread cracks me up :D GOOD FOR YOU!:cool:

Hi,

Those are some lovelies Ren! I really dig the swayback myself. Is this whole high class slip joint thing going to lead to a kinder and gentler Devil's Trail Boss?:D

About time you got here.

This is the place to be. Aside from the beauty of the knives, you get a really good class of people. There is very little chance of running into any mall ninjas in this part of the forums.

Beautiful start to your slippie collection Ren.... Did you vote for the forum knife? Let me guess......Swayback??:D

WOW.. I never thought I would see the day RTDTB would be hangin in Trad ...
Let alone postin pics of Slipjoints .

Very nice start to your collection. It doesn't get much better than a pic of a nice slipjoint with a great background....

Oh ya, the people here in this little s/f are terrific

I can also feel the tendrils of slippie addiction reaching towards me, the clean, classic lines, the low profile layout, the fact that you can EDC twice as many slippies as you can modern locking folders, the ability to get a truly terrifyingly sharp edge (especially on carbon-steel), the fact that each knife has a unique "personality", I've even started thinking "how many of my modern locking knives do I *really* need?"

that said, I already *have* pared my locking folder collection down significantly, and the ones I do have are all users, so they get to stay

I think I'll try an experiment, see how long I can get by with just a slippie or three for EDC, one traditional full-size slippie, one SAK of some flavour (for the toolkit) and one small slippie

So, today it'll be my yellow handle Case Trapper, my Vic Cybertool 34 (what's the verdict on the C34, does it qualify as a classic, in either way it's too useful to go without....) and my Schrade Junior Stockman, if I really *need* a locking folder, I have my Byrd Wings in the car....

Hey Ren,good to see you posting here.I sent a big somethng out this morning to help you get into it,even more.Enoy them! Nice knives there
