Hi all,

I got out to day and wanted to get started on this years
winter hut shelter. It is domed in shape.
I was going to do a Tipi this year but decided on this type
When I found the area that I thought would be a great spot.

Kathy came with me today and as normall kelly Girl too:D

Kathy took this pic of me after I harvested a few long
saplings.

The area that I am setting up this little shelter Is between
2 fallen maple trees and they are still living but laying on
the ground in a V shape.

I really love this spot that I have selected to build the frame
work of my winter shelter.

Here is the front of the shelter that just has a little bit of
the frame started.

I have little more done in the pic I even started on the
front porch. It is just going to be a little extra shelter for the fire
I am going to have.

Here is a pic of the back of it.

I am planning on finishing it tuesday. I am going to cover it
with a AMK Heat sheet and then a nice big peice of plastic
sheeting. Then a nice cover of Leaves and some twigs
and branches to keep the leaves in place.

If I have enough time I am going to work on the fire pit also,
But if not I will start on or finish it up on wendesday I think.

This little shelter will fit the 3 of us pretty easy I think.

Not sure what the heck Kelly Girl thought she was doing,
But while I was building the frame work for the hut I looked up
and found her here.

I took this pic and then walked over to where she was at and grabbed and put her down on the ground. The little squirt was 5' off the ground lol.

Well that is all I have done for now.

Hi all,

Pretty much finished the rest of my Hut. Here are some pics
space blanket and then the plastic and then the leaves and
branches to help hold the leaves and other debre on.
The space blanket is small compared to the shelter itself
but the 2 mil. thick 9'x12' plastic cover up the rest pretty good.

Just to give you a idea about putting some branches on and
then starting to put some leaves on.

IMG_1239.jpg

Then the rest of the leaves. I tool 5 trash bags full to do this.

Here is pic of me inside the hut.

There will be more than enough room for kathy, Kelly Girl and
I in there. I also picked up a peace of broken concrete for
my reflector, for my fire when I have one. I have a few more
peaces to pick up and carry to the Breeden hut shelter:D.

Now if the weather man is right we are going to get some rain an
even snow wednesday. ( will see:rolleyes:) I cut some wood
and placed it in the shelter for in the morning when I go down there
there.
I just did enough to get a good fire going, I cut some more
but left it in whole peaces outside the hut. Just incase somebody
finds my Hut and wants to have a fire , it will not all get burned
I hope lol.

I am really looking forward to trying this hut out.

Now to the cutting tools that helped make this hut.
My elk antler Kephart and then my hand saw.
Aren't they bueatiful :D. lol

IMG_1238.jpg

With my Saw I cut the saplings and then with my Kephart
I trimmed the branches off them.

No tree climbing for Kelly Girl today. She rested lol

Well all this is my winter hut so far. I have a few other things
in mind.

So stay tuned.

Anyways chat with you all later,

Bryan

bryan as always great posts. the hut looks like with a fire in front it would be very warm and definitely be a good place to spend some woods time. and of coarse i have to comment on my favorite kephart ever, still looks amazing i can't wait till you have your shop up and running :)

Great shelter Bryan !

Love the pick of Kelly girl up the tree, dogs make you laugh at times eh !:D

Grunt soldier, Thanks, yea I think this will work just fine. It really is not that much different than what I did last year. I think with a fire It will be nice and warm. Yea I have to show that knife off too. I just love it. It is going to go just perfect with my new Bushcrafter pack that just came today.

IMG_1244.jpg

This pack is just so freaking awesome. It is a slim profile and feels like a it was made for me. I can still carry my Kephart knife and my belt survival kit.
and then my flashlight and leather man wave also with out the hip belt getting in the way.

IMG_1248.jpg

Then being able to draw the pack up with the side compresstion straps WOW is all I can say.

I have it already to go in the morning rain or shine

yea me too, I can hardly wait too, I am going to order a bunch of elk antler
scales in a couple of weeks. I got another knife that is going to get some of scales like that too. besides yours and several others.

Pitdog, Thanks man. Yea them critters are just so much fun. Iam going to ball like a baby when it is here time to pass on. I just dread that.

Take care all

Bryan, that's a great shelter and a great pack.:thumbup::thumbup:
My new pack showed up yesterday but I have not had tme to transfer my gear to it.

It will be interesting to see how your shelter works out when the weather starts and how it holds up over time.

I may have missed it, but what kind of saw and axe do you have there?

Great stuff man! Should be a great shelter.

And that Kephart is still just one sweet blade, love it!

Hi all,

Jeff, thanks, Yea, I am looking forward to seeing how this hooch holds up over the corse of the winter.
The axe I have in the pack is a GB hunter axe. and the saw is a hand saw I got from walmart.

skab8541, thanks.

Looks good. Thanks for the WIP pics, I like to see how people craft up their shelters/homes away from home. ;)

Nice lookin' shelter Bryan. I'm sure the Breeden clan will be quite cozy in there. And you are right... that pack is freakin' awesome. Nice choice!

Jeff

Love the shelter Brian. Forgive my ignorance, but what brand/model is that pack?
