Mike, did you find anything about the country of origin?

On to the original poster's question, I seriously doubt that it would ever make it into the regular line up. Kershaw has 2 nice inexpensive work knives, the Needs Work and the upcoming Oso Sweet.

Description:
2 1/2" long blade is easily opened with one hand. Blade is made from AUS6A stainless steel and hardened to 55 - 57 Rockwell to hold an edge over prolonged use. Injected molded Zytel handle with non-slip Krayton inserts provides a sure gripping surface and resists most shop chemicals. Snap-on logo molded in handle. Exclusive wrench clip adds style and is removable. 6-1/8" overall length with blade open.

I also found that it is Japanese made.

No, the Chubby is not SpeedSafe. There will only be Snap-On and Craftsman variations.
