Thomas,...Re:ZT 0200,...How Many Made?

Ummm,.....just thought i'd ask,........you're not sending it back because the assisted opening is not working,........???

............because it doesn't work on any of them!!!! :D

Perhaps you're wanting a "Baby" ZT 0200? ;)

Mine has an off-center blade when closed and it has some wobble when open that I cannot correct. When I tighten the blade enough to be stable you can barely open the knife with both hands and LOT of effort.

Had the same issue with a Lahar and Kershaw sent me a new one that arrived this week. That one is a tad off-center still, but opens smooth and locks tight. The two JYD II's I have were perfect out of the box. I guess that's the luck of the draw when buying over the 'net.

At first I thought I might just return the ZT to the Pharmacy and buy later when the bugs are worked out, but then read that these are a limited run. Is that right? With that in mind I thought I would send it home to Kershaw for a fix.

Seems like a great knife, but for north of $100 it's a drag to have these issues out of the box.

I must say this can't be a common problem with these,.....as the 19 i've had were all centered very well, (with a good range of serial numbers under 1000 so far).....and all but two opened easily. The two that were a bit tighter just needed a VERY slight backing off of the adjustment screw and they were fine.

All of mine were stable also,....especially on lockup. You can discern a very slight side motion in the blade when the knives are closed,.....and that's perfectly normal. If you had watch grade tolerances with knives intended to work under harsh conditions,.....the least bit of dirt or other grundge could freeze them up. As these are intended for hard use such as police and military (and guys like us! ;)),........you have to expect a little play.

.....yours just was the uncommon exception, IMO.

Yes I read your comparison post with great interest last night expecting to hear that some were a little less perfect than others. As your large sample tends support, mine seems to be an exception to the norm.

Anyway I have this sort of bad luck a lot. I collect guns as well and if there is lemon out there I often the guy it goes home with. LOL!!

Also, I hear ya on the some open tolerance for grit and grime, but when locked open there is too much play using my other Kershaw folders as a baseline.

So are these limited run or standard production?

On lock up all mine have VERY little play or movement of the blade when the blade is grasped and wiggled from side to side,......and i'd be tempted to so no noticable movement at all.

.......the slight movement i was referring to was in the closed position,......where i can feel & see a maybe 1 to 1.5mm movement. When open the blade fits into the stop rod (what i call it), and you have the liner lock working into it all to remove any percieved "play".

I still don't know if these knives are limited in production or not,......just mentioned that none i have or seen have breached the #1,000. That just seems SO low for a model idealy suited for military & police use.

Forums like this are a good place to try to find out, however!

Thomas,.....on the admittedly small sampling (19) of the ZT 0200 and ZT 0200ST i've had to pleasure to own & examine,......i couldn't help but notice none had a serial number over 1,000. The sample of ZT 0200 i'm using as an EDC is number 0932,......about the highest numbered one i recall in my group. My ZT 0200ST is number 0478 , and both selected by me for a noticable extra bit of spring in the liner lock, and both lined up pretty near center in the blade.

But as none of my examples breached the 1,000 piece mark,.....i was a bit curious as to whether this run of ZT 0200's ended at just 1,000 pieces each of both the plain blade and partially serrated versions.

BTW,....all of my samples were made in July of '07

If these were limited to 1,000 pieces each,.....it would seem a very small number considering their intended market of police, military, emt's, fireman, and folks like me appreciating a top notch and useful product.

I suspect you do subsequent runs of various models based on inventory levels and demand,........so just a bit curious what inventory level you drop to before another "batch" comes down the line?

BTW,.....if any of this is beyond your's or KAI's desire to "share" with us,.....i understand. Never want to poke my nose where it doesn't belong.
I just bought a ZT200 plain blade with the serial #5966 from the Kershaw Guy

You know, the new information is relevant to the thread. I appreciate seeing the latest number.

Curiosity? I like random, trivial facts? Something along those lines.

Well you are in luck, because I have a random trivial fact for you. I am tired. Ha

Seriously though, I just checked one of them I have in stock and it is #6255.

I think it's funny that the 2nd and 3rd comment talk about keeping the topics down...and then 5 years later it's brought back to life :D

After five years, I'm sure it's fairly safe to open a new thread lo
