Thong Hole placement....

On my store bought & custom knifes I see the placement of the thong hole near the top of the back of a knife or near center..I drew up a design with the hole placed in the Beak of a birdshead shaped handle...Went to a custom maker near here..I showed him my sketch..Is it bad to place the hole there? Can someone tell me why the majority of designs put the thong hole where I see it most of the time? On a full tang design I can't see that part being weaker. Is it tradition or design I'd like to know ..TIA,,Mike In Ct

To me the position of the thong hole placement is functional as well as being esthetic (looking good). Depending on the design (fighter, hunter, etc.)eI put it where I think it is functional and pleasing looking. In your case I think they look fine.
 
Whoa TB Dude!!!! That is one Cool Looking Pile of Knifes ....I'll put a link into the shape I'm working with...That Did Not work, sorry....Thanks for the pics..I'm loving them all, but the two on the right..WOW!!! Mike
