Those varmints do have a place on this earth...

Well, the armadillo is the state mammal here in tx. Probably voted in by apartment dwellers in Austin.

You must live in fla because here in tx Bahia shares the same status as the armadillo.

yes Sir i do. bahia doesnt have to be irrigated. grew up with all lawns this way and chewing on the stalks as a kid. then folks started putting Augustine down and sprinklers and wasting water and using lota of fertilizers and pesticides. i prefer bahia over aramdillos.:)

I've got a pasture full of Bahia but folks here won't touch it. I can't give the hay away. I prefer it over Bermuda in the yard but I'd rather have some coastal type grass in my pasture. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford the changeover though.

I read this over several times and couldn't get what they were calling Bahia? A grass.https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/weeds/bahia-grass-control.htm
I grew up baling hay and we always had some Mexia grass and more Coastal.
Some farmers liked it. The expense he is referring to in changing over to Coastal is the pasture must be tilled up and other plants removed. Then Coastal runners / roots spread and planted (watered in) because Coastal hay doesn't have seed. Limestone county hasn't been getting good rains. DM

I knew a farmer that remembers when some government agricultural expert came to his farm and touted the use of this new grass to use for hay. He carried root stock with him to show. This hardscrabble farmer dropped a piece of root and put his foot on it till the government man left. He was old and grey when I met him and he said to me he cursed the day he moved his foot over that root. He lived to see that great new plant called 'Johnson Grass' take over lots of his land and become a weed in his crops.... True story.......We should always be cautious of anything new to our environment, even some new Buck knives. (I just watched the SHOT show video) 300

^^ That was probably the same Gov't man that brought in the love bugs.

I occasionally see a dillo here in fl but they haven't dug anything up. I like seeing them cuz we never had them tin Jersey.
