Thought I would never see it.

I was reading through the descriptions of the sub forums and figured this was the best place.
The good: my knife was found. The bad: I can let my imagination run away, if I let it. The ugly: I'll probably never get past "the bad". So I guess the feedback is on me and my inability to not be wound so tight.

Anyway, I ordered a new Benchmade mini griptilian with the G-10 scales. Since I'm not home to receive it, I was stalking the shipment on the post office app. The app showed that it was delivered. To quote Ric Flair - Wooooo! But wait, something is wrong because my wife did not text me with usual 'another knife came in' and the chewing that usually followed.

So now my paranoia kicks in. Did someone steal it from the box? Did the mail carrier see the store name on the return label and decide he needed worse than I did? Did he leave it at the door instead of in the box? Is it in the neighbor's box? Maybe the app is fouled up and it will be delivered tomorrow. I call the post office. Guy says he will get with the route carrier and ask him.

I call the seller and say that if they keep my card on file, when I order from them again it might be with same card. Because now I'm wondering if I should have a new card issued.

Finally at the end of the day, my wife calls to tell me that the delivery was shoved to the back of the mailbox and she did not see it the first time. I wish I could say "lesson learned" but just another pop quiz before the real test.

Sounds perfectly normal to me.
I laughed at the situation because I've been there. I think a lot of folks here go into a state of hysteria when the mail doesn't run on time. I've chased down my mail carrier to make sure he didn't have my package stowed away somewhere on his truck. It did arrive the next day.

Had to laugh!! I found a solution to this hysteria!!
When a package is at the post office my mail main calls me to meet up. I get the package at 9:30 rather than 5:00!! This service costs me $5 a package and it's worth every dime!

When I took over managing a post office in NYC, I saw a steady stream of carriers running bundles of mail downstairs each morning. What's up? Same as your guy, but on a daily basis for small neighborhood businesses.

Figure 5 minutes to pull the mail, tie it, take it downstairs to hand off. Times that by 50 (half my carriers) for 250 minutes, that's over 4 hours time lost to sorting mail and starting delivery. I shut that down the day I found out.

My dad and his friend are both vets and they worked seasonally for the post office in college. His buddy ran across a piece of his own mail when he was sorting and stuffed it into a pocket. Apparently he was fired on the spot and damn near had charges brought against him. After hearing that story a few times it convinced me just be patient and let USPS do their thing.

I feel sorry for the guy, but those rules are ENFORCED, by the Postal Inspectors.

When I started working there, a senior clerk took us around for a few days orientation. Really well done, too. One thing she pointed out everywhere were the galleries overhead, where the Inspectors watched and filmed us.

One day when I was a new supervisor, a clerk turned and waved for my attention. He had a nickel he found in the tray of mail he was sorting. Not taking a chance it was a plant to see if he would steal it, he handed it off to me. I walked it to the loose stamp / loose change jar at the front desk.

I moved recently , literally across a 4 lane highway and a street over. Old house we were the first stop from the postman. It was great too I'd get my packages at 8 a.m. or earlier.

Fast forward and now mind you I'm literally under a minute from the old house. We are the last house on the route! Mail runs at 5:30-6 everyday. On top of that our postman is getting ready to retire and he's got a helluva lot of vacation time.

New mailman gets all our mail mixed up all the time. Luckily I live in a pretty tight community and so far all mail haa eventually got to me .*knock on wood*

I got a call from a guy who said his route started directly across the street from him, ran up the street a few blocks, then turned down his side of the street, getting to him ... last. His request was that we reverse the route. So the people who were first all those years would now want to know whats going on :)

OK, he said, just change direction each week. Um, no. But he said, I'm old and retired, and until the mail comes every day, I don't have anything to do.
