Looks interesting. About an inch shorter than the Mini, but more than twice the weight.

I like it! The fact I could carry it in my coat pocket on winter walks makes it appealing to me.

I like yhe Mini better :)
IMHO the Hand hatchet is too short and heavy.
The Mini looks like the right size for an all around tool

woah! that thang is tiny!

For me, one of the attractions of my Mini is that is is light to carry, yet effective for my usage.

I'm not keen on the length or the weight of the new addition (for my usage).

I don't doubt that it'll be a pretty capable piece of kit, looking forward to seeing some reviews.

I'd like it if it had a scaled-down-head. I wanted the Gransfors mini, but didn't want to fork out the $157 for it. I got the Wetterlings Wildlife instead. Paid $60 for it here.Pretty happy with it, and small enough for backpacking :)

If you replace the Peli Micro Case with the Trangia 210 Mess Tin, you'll have a PSK/Fire Kit container with which you can collect, carry and boil water, drink from, cook in, and eat from!

Weight: 5.6 oz. Materials: Aluminum. Size: 6.5 x 3.5 x 2.6 inches.

Apologies for slight thread drift.

Actually, that sounds just like the wetterlings mini. It's got what is almost a full size/weight head on a short haft. If that appeals to you more than the light weight of the gb mini, give it a try. It's just $40.

For the same reason the Backpaxe from gerber isn't popular, I predict this to have very little utility. A hatchet needs some length and niether of these two do. This was just in bushcraftbk magazine as a prize.

BTW, I have a mini GB hatchet and love it but this one is just too small.

try choking up on the haft, right behind the head, and use a push stroke. ;) you can shave with them, make fuzzies, kindling, slice and dress game.

I like the new hand hatchet a LOT, but i would prefer the Hand hatchet to have the little ax head that the Mini has........

That's about the same size as fiskars hatchet. It's really handy, light enough to carry in belt if necessary.

"nuther one from Lee valley tools, most will scoff and freak out about the 440 steel but i like this little axe"

Bushman5 -- That Firestone Belt Axe you mentioned is a great piece of kit. Great handle design to maximize short handle leverage and a bearded head for effective choke up knife work. For a min-kit hiker very versatile. I've always enjoyed mine.
