Thought you guys might...

Well despite the flu bugging me -Keith's knife is done. The finishing touches are buffalo rawhide sewn on with elk sinew - the tacks are handforged. Now for the sheath......

Georgeous. Great collaboration....

Hope this new bout of the flu passes quickly, Chuck! You and Linda take care of yourselves...

PHASE TWO: The Sheath - parts to be included are: brain/smoke tan buckskin (the background), top left buffalo hair and rawhide, copper beads in two sizes, tin cone dangles, 25 Peso Mexican Coin concho, hawk bells, iron tacks, and last but not least glass pony beads. Of course once started things may change..........

Fitz - we're doing OK - damn bug won't let go completely but I think maybe we're winning:confused: :D

Hey Chuck,

It was nice talking with you this w/e. You know what? We forgot all about C.A.S. I hope you and Linda get over the little monsters.

Mark

Nice talking with you too Mark - Well guess we both were having a case of CRS. I just sent you some the buffler rawhide and a current copy of the Cowboy Chronicle so you'll get some info on CAS. We'll talk again after the first of the year.

Linda was cleaning the kitchen when I got up so she must be feeling better!;) Getting it ready to bake some cookies I hope.

And the saga continues - worked on a gun rig all day yesterday and then decided to have some fun later that night:
The first image is the vegtan leather core with the real sinew threads for sewing and the buffalo rawhide pieces for the face and back.

Second and third images are the front and back after sewing on the rawhide, painting on a design, and beginning the ageing.

Next step will be to add the tacks and the cuff around the throat. The finished sheath will have beadwork, the concho, buffalo hair dangles, and more.

WooHoo!!! Chuck shipped me my knife today. I should be getting to hold it in my hot little hand sometime next week. Some pictures of the finished knife and sheath to follow once Chuck has sent them to me.

Here are those pictures I promised. This one fantastic knife and sheath combo.

As beautiful as this one is, it's easy to understand why more of the same would be the order of the day. ;) :D Heartiest congrats to all three of you (Keith, Gib, & Chuck) for design and craftsmanship done exceedingly well!! Lots of details on this one to like!

Also, thanks for sharing the process with us. It leads those of us who are not makers to a greater appreciation of how many steps and how much work goes into the knives that make us go "OMG!!!! " in a good way and that we drool over like this one.

Never had the opportunity yet to see Gib's work up close but his partner's work, Chuck, I have seen and held in my own hands. I would say it must be outstanding - and that may be understated.

Beutiful work, both knife and sheath.

I've had the pleasure of handling a couple of Gibs knives, and the thing that strikes me about them is there ballance. Near perfect feel in the hand.

The thing about this one that I realy love is the coin pommel, nice touch!

Where do you get real sinue? Would love to use some on frontier hawks.

Great combination, the sheath realy works with the knife, and the rustic finish is great!

Well I just spent the last 6 hours fixing my computer  :grumpy:

So it was nice to open up my email and see all these nice compliments.

Will you can get real sinew from several places: www.hideandfur.com or www.matoska.com are two. It can be a hassle to work with but for looks it can't be beat. Give me a shout if you want and I'll walk you through the how-to.

Again thanks.
Chuck

Wow, that was a fun little jaunt. Nice knife Keith! Congratulations to the makers too, beautiful work guys! :)

I'm so jealous of you guys who have that old west style just gushing from your ears! Chuck, your work is excellent. Keith, you are a lucky man, indeed.

Hey Dan, lets get together and see if we can come up with our own genre... New England Style? LOL!
